9.1 ERRORMESSAGESDISPLAYEDONTHE

SCREEN

The controlpanel screenmay display a variety of messagesduring the

courseofoperationoftheStarLaserPrinter4.Youarealreadyfamiliarwith

thedisplaysequenceduringpower-up,andwhenprogrammingtheprinter.

Somemessagesprovideinformationaboutthepapersupplyin the cassette

ortheconditionof theEP-Lcartridge.Othershaveto do withfontsoremu-

lations.

Anotherwayof consideringerrorsis thatsomeofthemresultfromfailures

inhardwareorsoftware Othererrorsa~ functional,meaningthateitherthe

printer operatoror the host computerhas commandedthe controllerto

performan operationthatis beyondits designedcapabilities.

If theprintermalfunctionsfor somereason,warningmessageswillappear

onthescreen,recommendingwhatactionyoushouldtake.Themostserious

aremessagesthattellyoutocallforrepairservice.Somemessagesconcern

lessseriousconditionsthatcanbehandledbytheprinteroperator.Informa-

tionmessagesrelateacommunicationproblemwiththehostcomputer,but
