Whenthe printerfinishesits print“map”of yourruleor pattern,theprint
positionautomaticallyreturns to the spot from which you started. That
means,forinstance,thatyoucanmakea lightlyshadedrectangleandthen
startprintingtextrightoverit.Thiskindof boxcanbeusefulforsettingoff
particularinformationfromthemainbodyof yourtext.
Horizontally,youcan specifythe rulelengthor horizontalpatternsize in
dotswiththis command:
<ESC>*cn A
in whichfor n youenterhowmanydotsacrossthe pageyouwantthe rule
or patternto be.
Alternatively,to specifythe horizontaldimensionfor a rule or patternin
decipoints,youcan printthiscommand:
<ESC>
*C n H
in whichn is the horizontalruleor patternsizein decipoints.
Vertically,youcanindicatethe sizeofyourruleorpatternin dotswiththis
command:
<ESC>*c n B
inwhichnisthenumberofdotsdefiningthethicknessoftheruleorthedepth
of the pattern.
Alternatively,to showthe verticaldimensionin decipoints,you send this
command:
<ESC>*c n V
inwhichnisthenumberofdecipointsintherule’sthicknessorthepattern’s
verticallength.
4.7.4 Choosingandprintinga rule orpattern
Youneedbothofthenexttwocommandsto chooseandprinttheparticular
patternyouwantto fillyourdefinedarea.Thesecommandsworktogether.
WiththePrintPatterncommand(whichactuallycomessecond)youspecify
whetheryouwanttofillyourrectangularareawithasolidblackrule,afinely
dotted gray-scalepattern, or a predefine linear pattern. And with the
SpecifyPatterncommandyoucanindicatewhichparticulardottedorlinear
