Besidestheseyourprintersupportssetscontainingjustsymbols,suchasthe
Greekalphabet(13),logicsymbols(S),arrows(t), theqjistered trademark

3.3.2 Eachemulationhas symbolsets
Yourlaserprinterworksby emulatingor followingcommandsdeveloped
originallyforotherprinters.Oneof theStarLaserPrinter8’sadvantagesis
thatitoffefiyouachoiceofseveralbuilt-insymbolsetsforeachfontineach
emulation.
TheactualFX-850,printerdoesnotusesymbolsetstoproduceinternational
accentedcharactemandspecialsymbols.Instead,theFX-8501etsyoudefine
whichcharactersyouwantwithparametersettings.
WhenyourStarLaserPnnter4 isemulatingtheHPLaserJetIIP,thenormal
default symbolset is the Roman-8set. Roman-8includesall the usual
keyboardcharacters,numbersandsymbolsinASCII,plusaccentedfo~ign-
languageCharactersand specialsymbols(butnothingfor linedrawing).
TheEpsonFX-850emulationismllyvematile. Itletsyouhavebothofthose
IBMsymbolsetsplusEpson’sownstandardsymbolset.ThisEpsonsymbol
setisunusual:itcontainsbothuprightanditaliccharactersin the sameset.
You may also choosefrom symbolsets for all the countriesmentioned
above,plusa seconduniqueset foreachof Denmarkand Spain.
3.3.3 Defaultfontattributes
Whenyoupoweronyourprinterandchooseanemulation,theinternalfonts
startoffwithdefaultattributeswhichyoucanchangeasneeded.Thedefault
symbolsetsdependon the emulation:in LaserJetIIP modethe defaultis
Roman-8,andin EpsonEX-800modeit’sEpsonStd USA.
