6.6 CHECKING GPS STATUS
After connections have been made between the
GX1600 and the GPS, or when the GX1700 receives
the GPS signal from the internal GPS, or from an
external GPS antenna or chart plotter, a small satel-
lite icon ( )
will appear on the top right corner of the
display and your current location (latitude/longitude) is shown on the display.
: When the GX1700 receives the GPS signal from an external GPS antenna or chart plotter,
the “
IO
” icon will appear instead.
NOTE
If there is a problem with the NMEA connection between the radio
and the GPS, the GPS icon will blink continuously until the connec-
tion is corrected.
The GX1600 and GX1700 have a GPS status display which shows the satel-
lites currently being received, along with a graphical (bar-graph) representa-
tion of the relative signal strengths from the satellites.
NOTE
For the GX1600 and GX1700 to properly show the GPS status page
when an external GPS antenna or a chart plotter is connected it
must be setup to output GSA and GSV NMEA 0183 sentences.
