ImplantingtheINS
ThefollowingstepsoutlinetheprocedureforimplantingtheINS:
PRECAUTION:DonotimplanttheINSfacedown.Alwaysimplantwiththelabelfacingup.
Failuretodosowillpreventcommunicationwiththeprogrammer and/ormagnet.
PRECAUTION:IfusingmorethanINS,implant thematleast15cmapart.Puttingthemtoo
closetogethermayinterferewiththeprogrammer’sabilitytocommunicatewitheach one
separately.
1. PlacetheINSintothepocketatadepthnogreaterthan2cmfromtheskinsurface,with
thelabelfacingtheskinsurface.
2. CarefullycoilexcessleadbehindtheINSoraroundtheINSinloopstoprovidestrain
relieffortheleadandINSconnection.
PRECAUTION: Coiling the lead on the top surface of the INS (closest to the skin) will
interferewiththeabilityofthe programmertocommunicatewiththede vi ce.
PRECAUTION:Do not bring the suture needle in contact with the INS, or lead during
sewingthe INSintothepocketorclosingthe pocket.The componentsmaybedamageif
thisoccurs.
3. TostabilizetheINSwithinthepocket,passasuturethroughthetwosutureholesin
the
INSandsecureittoconnectivetissue.
4. Checktheentiresystembyfluoroscopypriortoclosingtoensureproperpositioningof
theleads.Verifythattheleadshavenosharpbendsorkinks.
5. PlacethemagnetintoasterilebagandwaveovertheINS.
