1. Before any removal of the old sub frame begins, disconnect and remove the battery, but you knew that. 2. The vehicle should be on a level surface before you start. Jack up and properly support the vehicle's frame. 3. Remove the front wheels and all front suspension components, including brakes, spindles, shocks, springs, upper and lower control arms, steering linkage, steering box, and sway bar. 4. Clean grease and flammable liquids and grind off rust and paint around upper shock mounts.
. You will need to modify the mounting holes for the upper control arms to achieve better camber gain and lower the roll center. First remove the control arm mounting studs. Next, use a die grinder and lengthen the holes downward approximately ¾” as seen in the photo below. ** Note: The stainless cross shaft on the upper control arms should not make contact with the angled part of the cross member where it meets the vertical control arm mount.
Spread the mount apart as needed by tightening the nuts against the frame.
9. Install the new steering box in the frame and the pitman arm on the box. 10. Install the idler arm relocation bracket on the frame and the idler arm on the bracket.
11. Assemble the inner tie rod ends, adjuster sleeves and outer tie rod ends. **Note: There are two different part #s for the inner tie rod ends. Part # ES442L is for the driver side and part # ES443L is for the passenger side. Use Antiseize on all threads. Assemble tie rod ends to the centerlink, and then install the assembly in the chassis. 12. Install new sway bar end links according to diagram at right.
13. Do not drive the vehicle, have it towed to a competent professional alignment shop to have an alignment performed. Note: Use these settings, not alignment shop pre-programmed specs! These are only suggestions and may need additional changes to achieve the optimum settings for your driving style or situation.
