2 Basic setup and operation
Using SYM Key IME
The SYM key is a hotkey that is used to invoke the Symbol IME (Input Method Editor). Use
the Symbol IME to enter accented character and other special symbols.
This option is disabled by default. To enable it, open the Built-In Keyboard settings utility
and select the Sym Key option. See Configuring built-in keypad settings, page 42
If the SYM Key IME is not enabled when you press the SYM key (Fn+ Space bar), a warning
message displays. Tap the message to open the Built-In Keyboard settings utility.
Selected Input Method Indicator
The Windows 10 operating system shows which input method is selected in one of several
ways depending on whether the language bar is enabled, and the state of the language
bar.
l If the language bar is disabled (the default) the selected input method is indicated on
the taskbar:
l If the language bar is enabled and maximized, the selected input method is indicated
on the language bar at the top of the screen:
l If the language bar is enabled and minimized, the selected input method is indicated
