4 Using the cellular modem (4Gmodelonly)
Before you begin the steps below, you must:
l make sure that a SIM card is inserted in the handheld. See Inserting and removing a
SIM card (4Gmodel only), page 26.
l confirm that the modem can access the Internet directly. If necessary, contact your ser-
vice provicer and confirm whether you must enter a user name, password, and
domain details when connecting.
l make sure that you have the correct APN (Access Point Name) from your cellular pro-
vider.
The handheld attempts to automatically set the appropriate Access Point Name (APN) for
your data connection based on your cellular provider’s identity. This process can take
several minutes.
To configure cellular network settings:
1. In the Apps screen, tap Settings then tap More.
2. Tap Cellular networks.
3. If you need to create a new APN:
1. Tap Access Point Names.

Tap an existing APNto edit it, or tap to create a new APN. Enter the APN set-
tings that you obtained from your wireless service provider.

Tap / Save.
4. To use the new or edited APN, select it in the APNscreen.
4. To enable data transfer when roaming, select Data roaming.
Using the Smartphone
Use the handheld's Smartphone feature to make and receive phone (voice)calls. You can
enter a number to dial using the keypad (see below), or select a number from the Contact
app.
NOTE – You can use a Bluetooth headset with the MobileMapper 50 handheld.
To make a phone call:
1. Make sure that a SIM card is installed. See Inserting and removing a SIM card
(4Gmodel only), page 26.
