Installation, Maintenance & Operation Instructions
ADDING A FREEZE AND/OR SCALD PROTECTION VALVES TO AN EXISTING
COMBINATION UNIT
INSTALLATION
1. Shut water supply off.
2. Disconnect the braided flex hose from the stanchion cross and ½” ball valve.
Note:
- For installation with vertical ball valve, installation will require an additional ½” Elbow and close nipple.
- Except for flex hose connections, use thread sealant/locker on all threaded pipe connections.
- Review diagrams below for proper alignment/configuration of pipe fittings and protection valves.
Single (FPV or SPV) Protection Valve Installation (for dual valve installation skip to step #7)
3. Connect the ½” close nipple to the ½” ball valve inlet.
4. Connect ½” x ¾” x ½” tee to ½” close nipple, making sure to align the tee so that the ¾” side outlet is
facing the downward position.
5. Connect ½” street elbow to ½” x ¾” x ½” tee, making sure to align the ½” female threaded outlet facing
in the downward position.
6. Connect either the freeze or scald protection valve (FPV or SPV) to ¾” side port of ½” x ¾” x ½” tee.
7. Skip to step #12
Dual (FPV and SPV) Protection Valve Installation
8. Connect the ½” close nipple end of the nipple & tee sub-assembly to the ½” ball valve, making sure to
align the tees so that the ¾” side outlets are facing the downward position.
9. Connect ½” street elbow to ½” x ¾” x ½” tee, making sure to align the ½” female threaded outlet
facing in the downward position.
10. Connect freeze protection valve to side outlet of 1st tee.
11. Connect scald protection valve to ¾” side outlet of 2nd tee.
12. Reconnect the braided hose to ½” street elbow and ½” connection on stanchion cross.
13. To prevent water spillage and potential slipping hazard at eyewash/shower location, it is
recommended to connect proper drainage piping to the 3/8” NPT on the protection valve outlet. If
flexible type hose is used, make sure to avoid kinking, which could cause frozen blockage conditions.
14. Turn water on to inspect for leaks, and test unit to insure proper performance of eyewash.
