Limitations of JPEG format
WhentransferringorexportingimagesinJPEG
format,thesystemuseslossycompression.Lossy
compressionmaycreateimagesthathaveless
absolutedetailthanBMPformatandthatdon’t
renderidenticallytotheoriginalimages.
Insomecircumstances,lossy‐compressedimages
maybeinappropriateforclinicaluse.For
example,ifyou
useimagesinSonoCalcIMT
software,youshouldtransferorexportthem
usingBMPformat.SonoCalcIMTsoftwareusesa
sophisticatedalgorithmtomeasureimages,and
lossycompressionmaycauseerrors.
