consideredHighPowerifitcandissipate1Wattormoreofpower.ThesearethefancyLEDsthatyou
findinreallyniceflashlights.Arraysofthemcanevenbebuiltforspotlightsandautomobileheadlights.
Becausethere’ssomuchpowerbeingpumpedthroughtheLED,theseoftenrequireheatsinks.A
heatsinkisbasicallyachunkofheatconductingmetalwithlotsofsurfaceareawhosejobistotransfer
asmuchwasteheatintothesurroundingairaspossible.HighPowerLEDscangeneratesomuch
wasteheatthatthey’lldamagethemselveswithoutpropercooling.Don’tlettheterm“wasteheat”fool
you,though,thesedevicesarestillincrediblyefficientcomparedtoconventionalbulbs.

LEDseveryday,forinstance.They’reusedinthingslikeTVremotestosendsmallpiecesof

UltravioletLEDs.UltravioletLEDswillmakecertainmaterialsfluoresce,justlikeablacklight!They’re
alsousedfordisinfectingsurfaces,becausemanybacteriaaresensitivetoUVradiation.
