Description
Soquete
all purpose MidWeight
joint compound is a ready-mixed compound providing good working qualities and
open time. Compared to conventional-weight compounds, it weighs up to 15% less, is easier working and sanding, and
provides lower shrinkage for metal bead, trim and fastener concealments. A special latex formulation makes it ideal for
embedding tape and for filling, leveling and finishing over gypsum panel joints, fasteners, bead and trim. Also for
skim-coating and hand-applying simple textures. (When used as a texture finish, it should be overpainted when dry.
Not washable unpainted.) Complies with ASTM C475.
Advantages
Low shrinkage for finer finishing Provides lower shrinkage than conventional-weight compounds for easier
concealment of metal bead, trim and fasteners.
Lighter weight Up to 15% less weight than conventional-weight compounds. Handling and applying are easier and faster.
Easy sanding Provides excellent ease in sanding using 150-grit sandpaper, 220-grit abrasive mesh cloth or finer.
Limitations
1. Protect container from freezing and extreme heat.
2. Prior to using any epoxy coating over any surface treated with joint compound, consult the epoxy coating manufacturer
and follow manufacturer’s specific recommendations regarding the preparation or suitability of substrates for the epoxy
coating. Many epoxy coatings exert significant shear stress on the substrate as the strong epoxy film shrinks while
curing/drying. This stress can cause the bond of the joint compound to fail, resulting in delamination problems.
Preparation
Position and apply Sheetrock
®
brand gypsum panels in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. In cold
weather and during gypsum panel joint finishing, maintain temperatures within the building at a minimum 55 °F
(13 °C). Provide adequate ventilation to carry off excess moisture.
Mix contents lightly without adding water. Use directly from container for covering fasteners and corner bead.
For taping and finishing joints (especially for use in mechanical tools), thin as necessary. Add water in half-pint
increments to avoid overthinning. Remix lightly and test-apply after each water addition.
Application Cover joint with a thin layer of compound and embed tape, leaving about 1/32" of compound under feathered
edge. Smooth lightly as required and let dry. Apply second coat, feathering approximately 2" beyond the first coat.
Smooth lightly as required and let dry. Apply finishing coat, feathering approximately 2" beyond prior coat. Let
dry and sand as required. Finish fastener heads, corner bead and inside corners with only two coats of joint
compound, feathered out onto panel faces and finished to a smooth surface. It is recommended that all joints,
fasteners and beads be sanded before decorating. Remove any sanding dust from surfaces. If smoothing and
dry sanding, use nothing coarser than 150-grit sandpaper or 220-grit abrasive mesh cloth.
Decorating For painting and decorating, follow manufacturer’s directions for materials used. All surfaces, including applied
joint compound, must be thoroughly dry, dust-free and not glossy before decorating.

or a good-quality, high-solids, interior latex flat wall paint used undiluted should be applied and allowed to dry
before painting, texturing or wallpapering.
To improve fastener concealment where gypsum panel walls and ceilings will be subjected to severe artificial
or natural side lighting and be decorated with a water-based paint, apply a skim-coat of
