You can also connect an access point to a telephone line, Integrated Services
Digital Network (ISDN) ro uter, cable modem, or Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
modem to share access to the Internet among multiple computers.
Communicating with an Access Point (infrastructure)
An infrastructure network is one that extends an existing wired local network to
wireless devices by providing an access point. The access point bridges the
wireless and wired LAN and acts as a cen tral controller for the Wireless LAN.
The access point coordinates transmission and reception from multiple wireless
devices within a specific range.
To communicate with an access point
1 Turn on the notebook, and insert th e Wireless LAN PC Card in to the
notebook’s PC Card slot on the left. Make sure you push the base of the
antenna or sides of the card. Pushing the prot ruding part of the antenna could
damage it.
2 Click Start on the Windows taskbar, and then Control Pan el.
3 Click Netwo rk and Internet Con nectio ns, and then Network Connections.
4 Double-click th e Wireless Network Connectio n icon. The Connect to
Wireless Network di alog box opens.
