Troubleshooting the Modem
My modem does not work.
❑ Check that the phone line is plugged into the line jack. See “Connecting a
Phone Line” in th e online User Guide for m ore information.
❑ Check that the phone line is working. You can check th e line by plugging in
an ordinary phone and listening for a dial tone.
❑ Check that the phone number the program is dialing is correct.
❑ Check that the software you are using is compatible with the notebook’s
modem. (All preinstalled Sony programs are com patib le.)
❑ If you are still experiencing problems, use your supplied Driver Recovery
CD to reinstal l the modem drivers. S ee “To use the Driver R ecovery CD(s)”
for more informati on.
My modem connection is slow.
Your notebo ok is eq uipped with a V.90 compati ble mo dem . Many factors may
influence modem connection speed, incl udi ng telephone line noise or
compatibility with telephone equi pment (such as fax machines or other modems).
If you think your modem is not conn ect ing properly to other PC-based modems,
fax machines, or your Internet Service Provider (ISP), check the following:
❑ Ask your phone company to check that your phon e line is free from any line
noise.
❑ If your problem is fax-related, check that there are no problems with the fax
machine you are calling and that it is compatible with fa x modems.
❑ If you are having a problem connecting with your In ternet Service Provider,
check that the ISP is not experiencing technical problems.
❑ If you have a second phone line available, try connecting the modem to that
line.
