Precautions and Procedures
The procedures described below assume that you are familiar w ith the general
terminology associated with personal noteb ooks and wi th common safety
practices required for using and modifyin g electronic equipment. Personal inju ry
or equipment damage may result fro m failure to take these precautions.
Disconnect your system from its power source and from any
telecommunications links, net works, or modems before you open the sy stem
or follow any of th e pro ced ures described below. Personal inj ur y or
equipment damage may result from failure to take these precautions.
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage memory modules and oth er
components. Perform the procedures described below only at an ESD
workstation. If such a station is not available, do not work in a carpeted area,
and do not handle materials that produce or hold static electricity
(cellophane wrappers, for example). Ground yourself by m aintaining contact
with an unpainted metal portion of the chassis while perf orming the
procedure.
Do not open the memory module packag e until you are ready to install the
module. The package protects the module from ESD.
Use the special bag for preventing ESD or use aluminum foi l when you store
the memory module .
Make sure you observe the proper safety precautions when you install
memory modules in your notebook. See the bulleted list below. Be careful
when adding memory. Mistakes made when installing or removing a memory
module may cause a malfunction.
