Features of the player transmission and greatly improves sound quality. Notes on the H.A.T.S. function Playback of Super Audio CDs This player is designed to play back 2-channel and Multi-channel Super Audio CDs, as well as conventional CDs, and provides the following features: • Equipped with a Discrete Dual Laser Optical Pickup, capable of reading a Super Audio CD or conventional CD, depending on the wavelength. • Precise reading of disc information due to an advanced servo mechanism.
Compatible Disc Types DVD+R and DVD+RW discs. For details on DSD Discs, see page 25. You can play the following types of discs on this player. • Super Audio CDs • Audio CDs • DSD Discs This player cannot play the following discs. • CD-ROMs (MP3, JPEG, etc.) • DVDs • DTS-CDs • DualDiscs, etc. If you try to play CD-ROMs/DVDs, the error message “Cannot Play” or “No Disc” will appear. For DTS-CDs/DualDiscs, refer to their respective notes below.
About the Super Audio CD Channel areas of Super Audio CDs Super Audio CD is a new high-quality audio disc standard where music is recorded in the DSD (Direct Stream Digital) format (conventional CDs are recorded in the PCM format).

You can also use the controls on the remote if they have the same or similar names as those on the player. Tip Under normal conditions, the batteries should last for about 6 months. When the remote no longer operates the player, replace both batteries with new ones. Hooking Up the Analog Audio Components Notes • Do not leave the remote in an extremely hot or a humid place. • Do not drop any foreign object into the remote casing, particularly when replacing the batteries. • Do not use a new battery with an old one. • Do not expose the remote sensor to direct sunlight or lighting apparatus.
Connecting a component with BALANCED input jacks XLR (balanced) cable (not supplied) 2: HOT (+) 3: COLD (-) Connect an amplifier having an HDMI input jack to the HDMI OUT jack. Connect an MD deck or other digital components to the DIGITAL OUT (CD) jacks. Be sure to turn off the power of all components before making connections, and connect plugs securely to prevent noise. Getting Started Use XLR (balanced) cables (not supplied).
Notes • It is recommended to use an HDMI cable of category 2 to connect the player. • The HDMI OUT jack of the player outputs only the blue signal as video. It does not output any other video signals. • Depending on the HDMI performance of the connected component (the format, sampling frequency, resolution, receivability of copyright protection signal from Super Audio CDs, etc.), no audio signal may be output from the HDMI OUT jack of the player. In this case, “HDMI” will not light up on the display.
Setting the output signal Setting the HDMI signal output You can set whether audio signals are output from the HDMI OUT jack or not. Note Getting Started lead) is inserted firmly. Setting the digital signal output of CDs You can set whether audio signals are output from the DIGITAL OUT (CD) jacks or not. This setting is effective in the HDMI OFF mode. In the HDMI ON mode, no sound is output from the DIGITAL OUT (CD) jacks, irrespective of the DIGITAL OUT (CD) switch setting. DIGITAL OUT (CD) Set the DIGITAL OUT (CD) switch to ON or OFF. ON: The DIGITAL OUT (CD) jacks output audio signals (the default setting). OFF: The DIGITAL OUT (CD) jacks do not output audio signals.

Setting the playback area of Super Audio CDs to be given priority When both a 2-channel area and a multi-channel area are recorded on the Super Audio CD layer, and the sound is output via HDMI, you can set the playback area that is automatically selected for playback. The setting is effective in the HDMI ON mode. PRIORITY Set the PRIORITY switch. 2CH: 2-channel area is given priority to play back (the default setting). MULTI: Multi-channel area is given priority to play back.

Using the Display The display shows information about the disc or track being played. This section describes the current disc information and information that appears for each status of the player. TIME/TEXT Display Displaying the information TEXT discs contain information, such as the disc name or artist name, as well as the audio signals. This player can display the disc name, artist name, and current track name as TEXT information.

Locating a Track Directly — Direct track selection You can select a track before you start playback. Locating a Particular Point in a Track — Search You can locate a particular point in a track during playback. Number buttons ENTER N m/M Press the number button(s) to enter the track number, and press ENTER. For example, • to select the 8th track: 8 t ENTER • to select the 21st track: 2 t 1 t ENTER • to select the 103rd track: 1 t 0 t 3 t ENTER Press m/M on the remote while playing a disc.
Playing Tracks Repeatedly Playing Tracks in Random Order — Shuffle Play You can play an entire disc or a specific track repeatedly. This function can be used with Shuffle Play to repeat all the tracks in random order (page 23). When Shuffle Play is selected, the player will play all the tracks on the disc in random order. CONTINUE Playing Discs — Repeat Play SHUFFLE REPEAT CLEAR CLEAR Press REPEAT on the remote repeatedly until “REPEAT” or “REPEAT1” appears on the display.
Selecting the Playback Layer When playing a hybrid disc with a Super Audio CD layer and a CD layer (page 8), the player plays the Super Audio CD layer automatically. You can select the CD layer. SA-CD/CD Selecting the Playback Area of a Super Audio CD When playing a disc with the 2-channel playback area and the multi-channel playback area (page 8), you can select the playback area you want to listen to. You can select the playback area in HDMI ON mode only (page 15).
Playing a DSD Disc This player can play discs that you recorded in DSF file format using a computer, etc. DSF files in each folder are played in the order of (1) to (10) as shown below. The playback order of folders is displayed at “ALBUM” on the display window. The playback order of files is displayed at “TRACK.” DSF files must satisfy following conditions to be played on this player correctly.
Display When you press TIME/TEXT during playback, the display shows: Album number/track number/elapsed time of the track Y File name Total number of albums appears in stop mode. Additional Information Precautions On safety • Caution – The use of optical instruments with this product will increase eye hazard. • Should any solid object or liquid fall into the cabinet, unplug the player and have it checked by qualified personnel before operating it any further.
On transporting the player • Before transporting the player, be sure to remove the disc from the player, and close the disc tray. • Before transporting the player, be sure to disconnect any connecting cables. If an XLR (balanced) cable is connected, the player and the connected components may be damaged. Notes on Discs On handling discs • To keep the disc clean, handle the disc by its edge. Do not touch the surface. • Do not stick paper or tape on the disc.
Troubleshooting If you experience any of the following difficulties while using the player, use this troubleshooting guide to help you remedy the problem. Should any problem persist, consult your nearest Sony dealer. The disc does not play. • There is no disc inside the player. • Place the disc on the disc tray with the label side up. • The disc is placed at an angle. Reload the disc. • Clean the disc (page 27). • Moisture has condensed inside the player.
No video is output from the HDMI OUT jack. • The HDMI OUT jack of the player outputs blue signal in the NTSC system only. It does not output any other video signal. The TIME/TEXT, MULTI/2CH, SA-CD/CD buttons on the player do not light up. • The TIME/TEXT, MULTI/2CH, SA-CD/CD buttons do not light up. The states of these button settings are shown on the display window. No sound is heard, and “Press Stop” appears on the display.

Réglage de la zone du Super Audio CD à laquelle donner priorité pour la lecture Lorsqu’une zone multicanaux et une zone 2 canaux sont toutes deux enregistrées sur une couche de Super Audio CD, et que le son est produit via HDMI, vous pouvez régler la zone de lecture qui sera automatiquement sélectionnée pour la lecture. Utilisation de la fenêtre d’affichage La fenêtre d’affichage communique des informations sur le disque ou sur la plage en cours de lecture. Cette section décrit ces informations ainsi que les éléments affichés au cours des différents états du lecteur. TIME/TEXT Affichage d’informations Les disques TEXT contiennent, outre les signaux audio, des informations telles que le titre du disque ou le nom de l’artiste.

Vous pouvez localiser n’importe quel point donné sur le disque pendant la lecture. Touches numériques ENTER N m/M Appuyez sur les touches numériques pour entrer le numéro de la plage, puis appuyez sur ENTER.
Lecture répétée des plages Lecture aléatoire des plages — Lecture aléatoire Vous pouvez répéter la lecture de la totalité du disque ou d’une plage déterminée. Cette fonction peut être utilisée avec la Lecture aléatoire pour lire toutes les plages dans un ordre aléatoire (page 21). Cette fonction permet au lecteur de lire toutes les plages du disque dans un ordre au hasard.
Sélection de la couche de lecture Si vous lisez un disque hybride comportant une couche Super Audio CD et une couche CD (page 7), le lecteur lit automatiquement la couche Super Audio CD. Vous pouvez sélectionner la couche CD. SA-CD/CD Sélection d’une zone de lecture d’un Super Audio CD Si vous lisez un disque comportant une zone de lecture 2 canaux et une zone de lecture multicanaux (page 7), vous pouvez sélectionner celle que vous désirez écouter.
Lecture d’un DSD Disc Conditions pour les fichiers DSF lisibles Les fichiers DSF dans chaque dossier sont lus dans l’ordre (1) à (10), comme illustré cidessous. L’ordre de lecture des dossiers est indiqué dans la fenêtre d’affichage, sous « ALBUM ». L’ordre de lecture des fichiers est affiché dans « TRACK ». Les fichiers DSF doivent répondre aux conditions suivantes pour être lus correctement sur ce lecteur.
Affichage Lorsque vous appuyez sur TIME/TEXT pendant la lecture, l’affichage indique : Numéro de l’album/numéro de la plage/temps écoulé de la plage Y Nom du fichier Le nombre total d’albums s’affiche dans le mode arrêt. Informations complémentaires Précautions Sécurité • Attention – L’utilisation d’instruments optiques avec cet appareil présente un risque oculaire.
Entretien Nettoyez le boîtier, le panneau et les commandes à l’aide d’un chiffon doux légèrement imprégné d’une solution détergente neutre. N’utilisez pas de tampon abrasif, de poudre à récurer ni de solvant tel qu’alcool ou essence. À propos du transport du lecteur Manipulation des disques • Pour maintenir un disque en bon état de propreté, tenez-le par les bords. Ne touchez pas la surface. • Ne collez ni papier ni ruban adhésif sur le disque.
Dépannage Si vous rencontrez l’une des difficultés suivantes lors de l’utilisation du lecteur, ce guide de dépannage peut vous aider à résoudre les problèmes. Si un problème quelconque persiste, consultez votre revendeur Sony le plus proche. Impossible de lire le disque. • Il n’y a pas de disque dans le lecteur. • Placez le disque sur le plateau, étiquette vers le haut. • Le disque est mal inséré. Rechargez le disque. • Nettoyez le disque (page 25). • Il y a condensation d’humidité à l’intérieur du lecteur.
Aucune vidéo ne sort de la fiche HDMI OUT. • La fiche HDMI OUT du lecteur produit uniquement un signal bleu dans le système NTSC. Elle ne produit pas d’autre signal vidéo. Les touches TIME/TEXT, MULTI/2CH, SA-CD/ CD du lecteur ne s’allument pas. • Les touches TIME/TEXT, MULTI/2CH, SA-CD/ CD ne s’allument pas. L’état des réglages de ces touches s’affiche dans la fenêtre d’affichage. il n’y a aucun son, et « Press Stop » s’affiche.
