Precautions On safety Should any solid object or liquid fall into the cabinet, unplug the receiver and have it checked by qualified personnel before operating it any further. Location of parts and basic remote operations 1 ?/1 switch This chapter provides information on the location of buttons and how to use them to perform basic operations. However, some functions explained in this section may not operate depending on the receiver. RM SET UP button 6 Easy scroll key While displaying a list, move up or down to select an item from the list, and then press to enter the selection. I/i buttons Press to change the information displayed on the display. Press the I button repeatedly to display the RECEIVER menu, press the i button repeatedly to display the SUB menu (pages 9–11) or NUM menu. In the NUM menu, move the easy scroll key to select the numeric value, then press the key to enter the selection.

RETURN O/EXIT button Press to return to the previous menu or exit the menu while VCR, DVD, or SAT menu or SAT guide is displayed on the TV screen.
Table of buttons used to control each component When you program the remote to control the following Sony or non-Sony components, you can use the buttons on the remote that are marked with circles. Note, however, that some buttons may not operate your component.
Press the i button repeatedly to display a list of operations (SUB menu) that the corresponding buttons are not found on the remote. The contents of the lists will vary according to the currently selected component. The following table shows the items in each list and the function of each item. Using the lists Chart of lists See the tree diagram below for the list hierarchy. Details on how to access each list is given from page 13. Some items have sub-lists that appear when you press i (see pages 9–11).

Note When the remote is programmed to control a non-Sony tape deck, the following may occur: – The information about deck B is not displayed and you cannot switch between tape deck A and B. – “TAPE A/B” is displayed and tape deck A and B switch automatically each time you press the easy scroll key, etc.
Programming the remote category (i.e., the component that is actually connected to the corresponding jacks; in this case, “VCR”), then press the key to enter the selection. The maker list appears. Maker? p Sony VTR1 Sony VTR2 Sony VTR3 The procedure below uses as an example a case in which a Aiwa VCR is connected to the VIDEO 2 jacks on the receiver. Before you begin note that: – You cannot change the settings of TUNER and PHONO.
Performing several commands in sequence automatically (Macro Play) The Macro Play function lets you link several IR codes in a sequential order as a single command. The remote provides 2 macro lists (MACRO 1 and 2). You can specify up to 16 IR codes for each macro list. Setting the sequence of IR codes 1 Press RM SET UP. The set up list appears. p IR SET MENU EDIT AUTO POWER BACK LIGHT 2 Move the easy scroll key to select “IR SET”, then press the key to enter the selection. The IR SET list appears.
To delay the output of an IR code 1 In step 4, move the easy scroll key to select “Common”, then press the key to enter selection. 3 Move the easy scroll key to select the time to delay the output of an IR code, then press the key to enter selection. You can specify from 1 to 10 second delay (in 1 second increments). To erase a programmed IR code 1 In step 4, move the easy scroll key to select “Common”, then press the key to enter selection.
Using the RECEIVER menu 1 Press I repeatedly. The RECEIVER menu appears. p TEST TONE SB DECODING NIGHT MODE 2 Move the easy scroll key to select the item you want to set, then press the key to enter the selection. Each time you press the key, the setting changes. For details on each items, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the receiver. You can set the following items; • TEST TONE: Turns on or off the test tone. • SB DECODING: Selects the SB DECODING setting.
Customizing the function list You can set the remote to display only the functions you use in the function list. The set up list appears. IR SET p MENU EDIT AUTO POWER BACK LIGHT 2 Move the easy scroll key to select “MENU EDIT”, then press the key to enter the selection. The MENU EDIT list appears.
Other operations (continued) 6 Move the easy scroll key to select the position you want to move the menu to, then press the key to enter selection. Sorting the SUB menu You can arrange the order of the SUB menu. 1 Press RM SET UP. The set up list appears. IR SET p MENU EDIT AUTO POWER BACK LIGHT 2 Move the easy scroll key to select “MENU EDIT”, then press the key to enter the selection. The MENU EDIT list appears.
3 Move the easy scroll key to select “On” or “Off”, then press the key to enter the selection. p TV-VIDEO1 TV-VIDEO2 TV-VIDEO3 4 Move the easy scroll key to select the video input of the TV, then press the key to enter the selection. When you want to select component video input, select TV-COMPO1 or 2. Notes • Switching to VIDEO 1–6 input may not be automatic on all Sony TVs. This is because some TVs cannot receive remote control codes immediately after being turned on.
Other operations (continued) To select the 2nd room mode 1 Press RM SET UP. Using an optional IR repeater as shown below, the following operations are possible with the remote: The set up list appears. • Switching sources. AUTO POWER BACK LIGHT CONTRAST p COMMAND MODE • Adjusting the volume. • Switching the power to on or off. 2 Move the easy scroll key to select “COMMAND MODE”, then press the key to enter the selection. The COMMAND MODE list appears.
Clearing all the contents of remote’s memory 1 Press RM SET UP. BACK LIGHT CONTRAST COMMAND MODE p ALL CLEAR 2 Move the easy scroll key to select “ALL Using the lists The set up list appears. Additional Information Troubleshooting If you experience any of the following difficulties while using the receiver, use this troubleshooting guide to help you remedy the problem. Should any problem persist, consult your nearest Sony dealer. The remote does not function. • If the receiver’s COMMAND MODE and the remote’s COMMAND MODE do not match, transmission is not possible between the remote and the receiver (page 21). • Point the remote at the remote sensor on the receiver.
