Before operating the pager Number of stored messages PERSONAL INBOX: Up to 40 Personal Messages can be stored. INFORMATION INBOXES : Up to 15 different Information Service messages from your carrier can be received. FOLDERS : Both Personal Messages and Information Service Messages can be stored in the four folders. MEMOS : You can write and store up to 50 memos. Operating the Jog Dial Press in : Selects the setting. Turn up or down : Moves the cursor up and down or right and left to select an item.
12 3 45 6 7 9 !º !¡ !™ 1 Getting Started Display 8 Out-of-service area indicator With this feature enabled, appears when the pager is out of the carrier service area. A message cannot be received when this icon is displayed. 2 3 Lock indicator Appears when a locked Personal Message is displayed on the screen. Unread message indicator Appears when there is one or more unread Personal Message. 4 Low battery indicator Appears when the pager battery needs replacement.
6 Date/time/message number display Displays : • time or date while in standby. Press and hold POWER/ESC to display the date, instead of the time. • the message number while being read. • total number of memos stored. 7 AM/PM indicator Appears when the time is displayed in 12-hour mode. Does not appear if the clock is in 24-hour mode. 8 Character display Displays 80 characters maximum, four lines with 20 characters per line. 9 Upwards indicator Appears when the message or menu continues upwards.
Inserting the battery 1 2 3 Slide the battery lock up 1. 2 Slide the battery cover until the “•” mark on the cover aligns with the “•” mark on the pager body 2, then remove it. Insert the battery “–” (contact) side first. Align the “•” mark on the cover with the “•” mark on the body and push in the cover until a click is heard. Then slide the battery lock down. 1 To replace the battery Replace the battery when the icon and LOW BATTERY! messages appear on the display.
Turning the power on Press POWER/ESC for more than POWER/ESC two seconds. The pager sounds or vibrates, and the display appears as follows. The banner appears. You can change the banner. Approximate battery level appears : Full Medium Low b b The standby display appears. To view the date, instead of the time, press and hold POWER/ESC. Use the Jog Dial! It's Fun and Easy! v BATTERY INDICATOR v About Backlighting The pager screen will illuminate if any button is pressed.

5 Turn the Jog Dial, set the month, then press in. The cursor moves to the day. Turn and press the Jog Dial in to set the day, year, hour and minute by following the same process. If you set the 12-hour mode, be sure to select either AM or PM. Return to the Function Menu, after the last selection. If there is any error in your selection, the pager will alert you with a beep. Turning the power off 1 While in the standby display, press the Jog Dial in to go to the MAIN MENU.
Receiving and reading messages When a message is received, the pager informs you with the previously set alert (sound, vibration, or no alert). Press POWER/ESC or the Jog Dial. To read a message Message number Please call me later. The received message is displayed with the time stamp appearing on the last line.
Note The Information Service alert mode is set to NO ALERT at the factory. You can set the pager so that it informs you of an incoming message. (Refer to page 37.
Selecting a menu You can use the Jog Dial to read the contents of a message or to set up your options. While in the standby display, press the Jog Dial in to go to the MAIN MENU. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select the desired item, then press in.
Reading a message To read a received message. 1 Press in the Jog Dial while in standby mode. ---- MAIN MENU ----PERSONAL INBOX 01 INFORMATION 00 FUNCTION MENU 2 Number of the unread messages Turn the Jog Dial, select PERSONAL INBOX or INFORMATION INBOXES (the title of INBOXES appears), then press in. You can change the title of the INFORMATION INBOX. (Refer to Page 40.) Four messages are displayed, with the most recent message at the top.
3 Turn the Jog Dial, select the desir ed message, then press in. The message appears with the text wrapped. When “v”or “V” appear to the left of the display “v” : There are more lines of message below. Turn the Jog Dial downwards to continue. “V” : There are more lines of message above. Turn the Jog Dial upwards to continue. If there was an error in receiving a message, “–––” appears on the display. If part of the message could not be received, “<⋅⋅⋅ ∼ ⋅⋅⋅>” appears.
Reading the next message You can skip to the next message while a message is displayed. 1 While the message is displayed, press in the Jog Dial. 2 Press the Jog Dial again to select NEXT. The next (older) message is displayed.
Locking and unlocking a message You can lock up to 20 Personal Messages to prevent erasing accidentally. Note that you cannot lock Information Service Messages. Open the message you want to lock, then press the Jog Dial in. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select LOCK, then press in. The messages are displayed with the next to the locked message.
Deleting messages You can delete Personal Messages and Information Service Messages. The pager has two types of deleting : either deleting one message or deleting all messages at once. Deleting one message 1 Open the message to be deleted, then press the Jog Dial in. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select DELETE,then press in. 3 Turn the Jog Dial, select YES, then pr ess in. 24 Please call me NEXT LOCK FOLDER DELETE DELETE ALL Please call me later.
Deleting all messages You can delete all unlocked and read Personal Messages or all read Information Service Messages in the same INBOX. Open the message to be deleted then press in the Jog Dial. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select DELETE ALL, then press the Jog Dial in. Please call me later. This is James DELETE ALL? Moving a message to a folder You can move messages into one of the four folders, which you can name at your convenience. (Refer to page 40.) 1 Open the message to be moved, then press in the Jog Dial. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select FOLDER, then press in. 3 Turn the Jog Dial, select a folder , then pr ess in. Managing the message folders Reading a message in a folder 1 While in the standby display, press the Jog Dial in to go to the MAIN MENU. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select the folder to open, then press in. Let' Hello James You have a phone c Shall we have dinn The first 18 characters are displayed for each message. 3 Turn the Jog Dial, select a message, then press in. 4 Press POWER/ESC after you have finished reading the message.
Moving a message to another folder You can move messages into one of the three another folders, which you can name at your convenience. Deleting a message in a folder Open the message to be deleted, then press in the Jog Dial. 2 To delete the displayed message only, tur n and pr ess in the Jog Dial to select DELETE. To delete all messages in the folder, tur n and press in the Jog Dial to select DELETE ALL.
Entering a memo You can enter phone numbers or names and store them as a memo. Up to 78 characters can be stored in a memo. A memo cannot be stored in a folder. 1 While in the FUNCTION MENU display, tur n and press in the Jog Dial to select MEMO. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select NEW, then press in. Searching for a memo In addition to scrolling through memos, you can also search for an individual memo. Editing a memo 1 Open the memo to be edited, then press in the Jog Dial. 2 Press the Jog Dial in to select EDIT. 3 Edit the memo. 4 When you have finished editing, turn the Jog Dial to select , then press in. Setting alert notification You can select an alert of either sound (alert and melody) or vibration for all new messages. The same alert will be used for all new messages. 1 While in the MAIN MENU, turn the Jog Dial, select FUNCTION MENU, then press in. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select SET NOTIFICATION, then press in. 3 ALERT AUDIBLE / VIBRATION Turn the Jog Dial, select AUDIBLE or VIBRATION, then press in. Audible : the icon will appear on the display with a short beep.
Setting the alarm clock You can set the alarm clock to alert you at a specified time. At the same time, you can display a comment you have prepared in advance. Up to four alarm times can be set. 1 While in the MAIN MENU, turn the Jog Dial, select FUNCTION MENU, then press in. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select ALARM CLOCK, then press in.
5 6 Press the Jog Dial in after you have finished setting the alarm. 8:00AM ON MON-FRI ADD COMMENT? YES / NO Turn the Jog Dial, select YES to add a comment, then press in. Select NO if you do not want to add a comment. The input area appears and you can enter a comment of up to 20 characters. 7 8 Add a comment following the same procedures as to enter a memo. (Refer to page 30.) Turn and select Dial to save.
Selecting an audible alert type The alarm clock, Personal Messages, and Information Service Messages can each have a different alert. 1 While in the MAIN MENU, turn the Jog Dial, select FUNCTION MENU, then press in. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select SELECT AUDIBLE ALERT, then press in. 3 Turn the Jog Dial to select for which item you wish to set an alert, then press in. ALARM CLOCK PERSONAL INFORMATION The alert options appear. The highlight alert type sounds.
Setting the “Do Not Disturb” time While in the “Do Not Disturb” time, your pager will receive messages without activating the sound (alert and melody) or vibration during the set time frame. While in the MAIN MENU, turn the Jog Dial, select FUNCTION MENU, then press in. Turn the Jog Dial, DO NOT DISTURB select DO NOT ON / OFF START END DISTURB, then press 12:00AM - 12:00AM in. Turn the Jog Dial, select ON, then press in. 1 2 3 4 5 The cursor moves to the starting time position.
Changing the banner You can change the banner that appears after the power is turned on and before the standby screen appears. The message can include up to two lines, 40 characters total. 1 While in the MAIN MENU, turn the Jog Dial, select FUNCTION MENU, then press in. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select BANNER, then press in. Changing an inbox or folder name An information inbox or folder can be personalized with a new name of up to 12 characters. 1 While in the MAIN MENU, turn the Jog Dial, select FUNCTION MENU, then press in. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select INBOX OR FOLDER NAME, then press in the Jog Dial. INFORMATION FOLDER 1 FOLDER 2 FOLDER 3 3 Turn the Jog Dial, select the inbox or folder name you want to change, then press in. FOLDER 1 4 Enter your text using the instructions for entering a memo. Changing the scroll mode You can change the screen scroll setting to either line-by-line or screen-by-screen while displaying messages only. 1 While in the MAIN MENU, turn the Jog Dial, select FUNCTION MENU, then press in. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select SCROLL MODE, then press in. 3 SCROLL LINE-BY-LINE / SCREEN-BY-SCREEN Turn the Jog Dial, select LINE-BY-LINE or SCREEN-BY-SCREEN, then press in. The FUNCTION MENU display returns.
Adjusting the contrast The contrast of the display can be adjusted. 1 While in the MAIN MENU display, turn the Jog Dial, select FUNCTION MENU, then press in. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select CONTRAST, then press in. 3 Turn the Jog Dial to adjust the contrast of the display and press in. CONTRAST To lighten the contrast, turn the Jog Dial up. To darken the contrast, turn the Jog Dial down.
Viewing the product information You can view the product information of this pager. 1 While in the MAIN MENU display, turn the Jog Dial, select FUNCTION MENU, then press in. 2 Turn the Jog Dial, select “ABOUT...”, then press in. VERSION XX.XX SERIAL No.XXXXXXXXXX The product information is displayed. 3 Press POWER/ESC or Jog Dial after you have finished viewing the product information. The FUNCTION MENU display returns.
Troubleshooting Problem •Potential cause/m Solution The pager is not on. • Turn the pager on. m Press the POWER/ESC button for more than two seconds. • The battery is not installed correctly. m Check to see if the battery is correctly installed. • Battery power is too low. m Insert a new battery. The display disappears. • If you do not operate the pager for more than a specified time the display returns to standby mode to conserve the batteries. This is not a sign of trouble.
The pager is not receiving messages. • The dialing party is entering an incorrect phone number or pin number. • The pager is outside the service area. m Move to where the signal can be received. •The pager is not on. m Turn the pager on. •The pager is in an area prone to frequency jams, such as near a fax machine or personal computer. m Move to another location. LOW BATTERY! message appears on the display when you go to the FUNCTION MENU.
