Precautions for use with electrosurgical knives Usage Precautions If this unit is used together with an electrosurgical knife, etc., the picture may be disturbed, warped or otherwise abnormal as a result of strong radio waves or voltages from the device. This is not a malfunction.
operating the unit. Operating the unit while condensation is present may damage the unit. Do not expose to strong light Do not shine strong light from shadowless lamps directly toward the CMOS image sensor. Phenomena specific to CMOS image sensors Do not subject to sudden temperature changes The following phenomena are specific to the CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) image sensors, and their presence on the shooting screen do not indicate malfunctions.
Overview Features Package Contents This unit is a 4K color video camera equipped with a 1-inch CMOS image sensor and an effective pixel count of 14.2 million pixels. The unit is capable of outputting high-quality video with a 4K resolution, which is four times the resolution of full HD (1920×1080 pixels). Before using the unit, check that the following accessories are supplied. The numbers in parentheses indicate quantities.
System Configuration Example You can configure a camera system by using the unit in conjunction with separately available equipment. Perform adjustments for the focus, white balance, and brightness, for example, using an external controller. System configuration diagram Video monitor MCC-S40MD Mounting arm Video recorder External controller AC adapter, etc. For details on connecting the devices, see “Installation and Connections” (page 17).
1. Parts Identification HDMI output connector (Type A) (page 20) Outputs 4K video from the unit as HDMI signals. Use a Sony high-speed HDMI cable with the cable type logo mark for the connection. For details on function and use, see the pages enclosed in parentheses. 2. Wire rope screw hole (page 18) Allows you to secure the wire rope using the supplied screw. 3. DC IN (DC power input) connector (page 19) Connects to a DC power supply.
• Combine mode Combinations of optical zoom and digital zoom operate as follows in this mode. Digital zoom off: Only optical zoom operates. Clear Image Zoom: Optical zoom and digital zoom (only Clear Image Zoom) operate in conjunction with each other. Digital zoom on: Optical zoom and digital zoom (including Clear Image Zoom) operate in conjunction with each other. • Separate mode Optical zoom and digital zoom (including Clear Image Zoom) operate independently of each other in this mode.
area for focus adjustment can be specified from a 16×16 (V×H) grid of the entire screen. When spot focus mode is set to Off, the focus is adjusted in the focus area that is always fixed at the center of the screen. You can also shift the reference captured with one push white balance in the red direction or blue direction. • Manual white balance Allows you to manually configure the R gain and B gain in 256 steps. Auto focus sensitivity The sensitivity can be changed during auto focus operation.
exposure mode is set to full auto or shutter priority. Gain limit setting You can set the upper limit for the gain. Use this setting to prioritize the signal-to-noise ratio during video capture. This setting functions when the exposure mode is set to full auto, shutter priority, or iris priority. High gain Iris Iris/gain curve AGC OPEN MAX AGC gain curve Gain point setting You can set a value between 0 dB and the gain limit and have the shutter speed change when the set value is reached.
Note High-luminance edge enhancement As the response speed varies depending on the subject, the configured speeds should only be considered as rough estimates. You can adjust the level of the edge applied to bright subjects. This is useful for further enhancing the edge around bright subjects on high-luminance backgrounds. Edge enhancement (aperture) This function enhances the edge contrast of the subject. Automatic adjustment occurs when this is set to auto mode.
Noise reduction Color matrix Noise reduction (NR) is a function that removes noise (fixed-pattern noise, random noise, etc.) to provide clearer images. 2D NR (spacial noise reduction) and 3D NR (temporal noise reduction) functions are available. You can set the level (NR level) of noise reduction (fixed 2D NR / 3D NR blend) with this function. You can select from Off, Level 1 to Level 5, and Enable 2D NR/3D NR for the NR level.
Matrix coefficient setting For details, refer to the separately available Protocol Manual. Configuring the six matrix coefficients (R-G, R-B, G-R, G-B, B-R, and B-G) allows you to adjust the hue of the entire image. Acquiring the command list For details acquiring the command list, contact your local Sony service representative. Video and effects The following video and effects functions are available.
Output Modes When you configure the HDMI format, the SDI format is also configured automatically. RGB 4:4:4 and YCbCr 4:2:2 switching is also configured automatically depending on the connected equipment. Note After updating the format setting, turn off and restart the unit to apply the configured format. HDMI specifications HDMI format HDMI color space 4K (3840×2160) @29.97p 4K (3840×2160) @25p HD (1920×1080) @59.94p HD (1920×1080) @50p HD (1920×1080) @59.94i HD (1920×1080) @50i SD (720×480) @59.
Installation and Connections Connections Installation Remove the rear cover, and pass the cables and supplied wire rope through the rear cover before connecting them to the rear of the unit as shown. Attach the unit to a mounting arm. Use the tripod screw holes on the bottom of the unit to secure it to the mounting arm. Rear cover Note Always attach the rear cover after attaching the wire rope and connecting the cables.
2 2 Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the two screws (3M2) inside the rear cover. Use the supplied wire rope screw (3M4×8) to secure the wire rope to the wire rope screw hole. Make sure it is firmly secured. Wire rope screw (supplied) SDI RS-232C Attaching the wire rope Wire rope Always attach the supplied wire rope to prevent dropping. 1 Warning Use the supplied screw to secure the wire rope.
Connecting the cables Connect the power cable and other cables. to DC power supply Connect the power cable to the DC IN connector. Connect to a power supply for which DC power input is guaranteed. HDMI cable SDI Monitor, recorder, or other device with HDMI input connector RS-232C Monitor or other device with SDI input connector The camera’s 4K video can be converted to HDMI signals for output. Use the cable tie to secure the HDMI cable and prevent disconnection.
3 Connecting the HDMI cable Use the cable tie to secure the HDMI cable and prevent disconnection. The diagrams in this section depict only the HDMI cable being connected to simplify understanding. 1 Secure the cable tie around the HDMI cable at a position approximately 23 cm (9 1/8 in.) away from the cable’s connector end. Cable tie Pass the HDMI cable through the rear cover. Positioning the semicircle to be at the bottom will reduce movement of the cable.
Approx. 23 cm (9 1/8 in.) 4 Insert the HDMI cable’s connector into the HDMI output connector. 2 Align the a mark on the rear cover with the a mark on the unit. 3 Turn the rear cover clockwise (as seen from the rear) to secure it. Attaching the rear cover Attach the rear cover after connecting the wire rope, power cable, and all other cables. The diagrams in this section depict only the HDMI cable being connected to simplify understanding.
Appendix Troubleshooting Check the following items before determining a problem to be a malfunction. If the problem persists, contact your local Sony service representative. Symptom Cause Solution The power does not turn on. The power cable is not connected properly to the unit’s DC IN connector. Insert the connector fully and securely. Images do not appear on the connected video monitor. The video connection cables are not connected properly.
