Using this manual Precautions on camcorder care Lens and LCD screen/finder (on mounted models only) •The LCD screen and the finder are manufactured using extremely highprecision technology, so over 99.99 % of the pixels are operational for effective use. However, there may be some tiny black points and/or bright points (white, red, blue or green in colour) that constantly appear on the LCD screen and the finder. These points are normal in the manufacturing process and do not affect the recording in any way.

Step 1 Preparing the power supply Installing the battery pack (1) While sliding BATT (battery) release lever in the direction of the arrow 1, slide the battery terminal cover in the direction of the arrow 2. If you do not use your camcorder for about three months, the date and time settings may be released (bars may appear) because the built-in rechargeable battery installed in your camcorder will have been discharged (p. 171).

(2) Slide OPEN/ZEJECT in the direction of the arrow and open the lid. The cassette compartment automatically lifts up and opens. (3) Push the middle portion of the back of the cassette to insert. Insert the cassette in a straight line deeply into the cassette compartment with the window facing out.

If you leave your camcorder in the standby mode for five minutes while the cassette is inserted Your camcorder automatically turns off. This is to save battery power and to prevent battery and tape wear. To return to the standby mode, turn the POWER switch OFF (CHARGE) and then back to CAMERA. To start recording, press the START/STOP button again without switching the POWER switch. However, your camcorder does not turn off automatically while the cassette is not inserted.

Запись изображения When you shoot close to a subject If you cannot get a sharp focus, move the power zoom lever to the “W” side until the focus is sharp. You can shoot a subject that is at least about 80 cm (about 2 feet 5/8 inch) away from the lens surface in the telephoto position, or about 1 cm (about 1/2 inch) away in the wideangle position.

The indicator may not be correct, depending on the conditions in which you are recording. When you close the LCD panel and open it again, it takes about one minute for the correct remaining battery time in minutes to be displayed.

Recording a picture Shooting backlit subjects – BACK LIGHT When you shoot a subject with the light source behind the subject or a subject with a light background, use the backlight function. For example, you can satisfactorily record the environment of nocturnal animals for observation when you use this function. This may cause your camcorder to malfunction. •When you keep NIGHTSHOT set to ON in normal recording, the picture may be recorded in incorrect or unnatural colours. •If focusing is difficult with the autofocus mode when using the NightShot function, focus manually. •Do not cover the NightShot Light emitter when using the NightShot function.

Recording a picture Self-timer recording Recording with the self-timer starts in 10 seconds automatically. You can also use the Remote Commander for this operation. (1) In the standby mode, press FN and select PAGE3 (p. 27). (2) Press SELFTIMER. (self-timer) indicator appears on the The screen. (3) Press START/STOP. Self-timer starts counting down from 10 with a beep sound. In the last 2 seconds of the countdown, the beep sound gets faster, then recording starts automatically.

Viewing the recording on TV Просмотр записи на экране телевизора Connect your camcorder to your TV with the A/ V connecting cable supplied with your camcorder to watch the playback picture on the TV screen. You can operate the playback control buttons in the same way as when you monitor playback pictures on the LCD screen. When monitoring the playback picture on the TV screen, we recommend that you power your camcorder from a wall socket using the AC adaptor (p. 23).

Viewing the recording on TV If your TV or VCR is a monaural type If your TV/VCR has a 21-pin connector (EUROCONNECTOR) Подсоедините желтый штекер соединительного кабеля аудио/видео к входному гнезду видеосигнала, а белый или красный штекер к входному гнезду аудиосигнала на КВМ или телевизоре. Recording a still image on a tape – Tape Photo recording Self-timer recording You can record still images on tapes with the selftimer. You can also use the Remote Commander for this operation. (1) In the standby mode, press FN and select PAGE3. (2) Press SELFTIMER. (self-timer) indicator appears on the The screen. (3) Press PHOTO firmly. Self-timer starts counting down from 10 with a beep sound. In the last 2 seconds of the countdown, the beep sound gets faster, then the recording starts automatically.

Using the wide mode You can record a 16:9 wide picture to watch on the 16:9 wide-screen TV (16:9WIDE). Black bands appear on the screen during recording in 16:9WIDE mode [a].
