About CD-R and CD-RW Discs The CRX160E can write CD-R and CD-RW discs when used with writing software. The ability to play (or read data) written by the CRX160E on another model CD-ROM drive depends on having the appropriate software settings when writing to the disc. CD-R Discs Data can be written to this type of disc only once, and once it has been written, it cannot be erased. Music CDs created on CD-R disc media can be played in a common CD player.
Disc Compatibility CD-R and CD-RW discs created with the CRX160E can be read on most CD-ROM drives. However, some older CD-ROM drives do not support reading CD-RW discs. Also, depending on the particular drivedisc combination, some CD-R and CD-RW discs may not be readable in some drives due to variations in disc quality and drive characteristics from one manufacturer to another. Recommended Discs We recommend using Sony recording media products with the CRX160E.
In Case of Trouble Before requesting technical support, please check once more whether there is indeed a problem with the drive. Once you have ascertained that the drive is at fault, contact your supplier or the Technical Support Service Centre listed in the separate “Technical Support Information”. Symptom Cause/Remedy The drive is not recognized by the PC, or it fails to operate properly. t The power connector or interface cable may not be properly connected.
Symptom Cause/Remedy An error occurs when writing data. t If the writing speed is set very low, change to a higher speed. Depending on the disc media being used, faster writing speeds may work best. Changing the writing speed is done by the writing software. If the PC has a slow CPU, the writing speed may also have to be slow. t Disable the PC’s screen saver. If the screen saver activates while writing data, the data transfer may become too slow, resulting in data writing errors.
Precautions for Use Handling Discs • Handle discs only by the edges. Never touch the recording surface. Operation and Storage Conditions Avoid using or storing the drive in a hot or humid location, or where it might be subject to severe vibration or direct sunlight. Shipping • Please repack the drive in its original carton when shipping by itself. • If the drive is to be shipped while installed in a PC, remove any disc beforehand.
