System limitations of MDs The recording system in your MD deck has the limitations described below. More than 255 tracks cannot be recorded on the MD.
System limitations of MDs (continued) Troubleshooting Guide to the Serial Copy Management System If you have any problem using this system, use the following checklist. Digital audio components, such as CDs, MDs, and DATs let you copy music easily with high quality by processing music as a digital signal.
The timer does not function. • Press CLOCK/TIMER SELECT on the remote and light up “cDAILY” or “cREC” in the display (see pages 41 and 42). • Check the set contents and set the correct time (see page 8 or 40 to 43). • Cancel the Sleep Timer function (see page 39). • You cannot activate Daily Timer and recording timer at the same time. • After you have set the timer, make sure to press `/1 to turn off the system. • The system is on about 30 seconds before the preset time. The remote does not function.
Troubleshooting (continued) Tuner The sound skips. There is severe hum or noise (“TUNED” or “STEREO” flashes). • Replace the MD. • Try moving the system to a place without vibration (e.g., on top of a stable stand). • Try moving the speakers away from the system, or placing them on separate stands. When you listen to a track with bass sounds at high volume, the speaker vibration may cause the sound to skip. • Load the disc and wait for 10 to 20 minutes with the system turned on.
Optional components Self-diagnosis display There is no sound. • Refer to General item “There is no sound” on page 48 and check the condition of the system. • Connect the component properly (see page 43) while checking: – if the cords are connected properly. – if the cord plugs are firmly inserted all the way. • Turn on the connected component. • Refer to the operating instructions included with the connected component and start playing.
Self-diagnosis display (continued) C14/Toc Error The MD deck cannot read the disc information properly. cReplace the MD. cErase all the recorded contents of the MD using All Erase Function (see page 29). C41/Cannot Copy The sound source is a copy of a commercially available music software, or you tried to record a CD-R (Recordable CD). cThe Serial Copy Management System prevents making a digital copy (see page 48). You cannot record a CD-R.
