mp3-HD input with channel processing, dithered and truncated to 24 bits
The bit-meter indicates activity higher than 16 bits. The red shading of bits 17-24 indicates
incorrect dither.
The diff signal is indicating the presence of audio data input at bits 17-24.
5.4 Internal Dither and Truncation in Lossless Codecs
The previous examples include the insertion of a dither/truncation plug-in in the audio path to
provide correct treatment of the signal prior to the codec.
For convenience, if a dither plug-in is not available, the Dither at XX-bit Level option can
be ticked in the CODEC & SETTINGS pop-up for either of the lossless codecs. However,
remember that if the plug-in is subsequently bypassed to render to wav, that resulting output
will not be dithered and truncated correctly.
The following principles apply to both mp3-HD and HD-AAC; the diagrams refer to HD-
AAC only.
HD-AAC non-truncated input
The diff signal and the bit-meter are indicating presence of audio data input at bits greater
than 24. The bits greater than 24 are indicated in red to show an error condition.
