Frame Rate
Frame rate is the number of frames that display per second. There are different standards for
different regions of the world. North America and Japan use NTSC, which is 30 frames per
second (film is 24 frames per second); Europe and some parts of Asia use PAL, which is 25
frames per second. When encoding video, you must specify whether the material is NTSC or
PAL so that the correct number of frames are processed.
Resolution
Screen resolution is the size of the picture. There are different standards for different regions
of the world. NTSC countries display video at 720 × 480 and PAL countries have a slightly
larger display with 720 × 576. It is important that you specify that correct resolution when
encoding video.
