Configuring the File System and File Names
To configure the disc’s File System and File Names:
1 In the Layout Editor directory area, select the Disc folder.
2 In the Property Browser, double-click the Disc Information folder.
3 Set the File System menu to one of the following options:
DVD Video Uses the UDF and ISO 9660 file systems.
DVD Video with Joliet Adds the Joliet extension to the ISO9660 file system, allowing
filenames of up to 108 characters, including support for Unicode and non-English
characters. The Mac OS can read Joliet discs but will shorten filenames to 30 characters
and not display non-English characters. DOS systems will shorten the filenames to 8.3
characters and also not display non-English characters.
4 Set the File Names menu to one of the follow options, which will determine how
ISO 9660 names will be displayed:
MS-DOS (8+3 characters) Allows filenames with up to eight uppercase alphanumeric
characters, followed by a period (.), and a three-letter extension. This format supports
the tilde character (~) used by later versions of MS-DOS to support long file names.
Restricted (8+3 characters) Comparable to ISO 9660 Level 1, which allows filenames with
up to eight uppercase alphanumeric characters, followed by a period (.), and a three-
letter extension.
Unchanged (Max 30) Comparable to ISO 9660 Level 3, which allows filenames of up to
30 characters using any of the ASCII characters.
All DVD discs contain filenames using both the UDF and ISO 9660 file systems. In addition,
if the File System is set to “DVD Video with Joliet,” filenames based on the Joliet file system
will also be included.
Files residing in the video and audio zones (the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories) will
always use MS-DOS (8+3) filenames.
