172 Chapter 11, Authoring in the Scenario Editor
Parts of Title (PTTs)
When a video track that contains multiple scenes is added to a title folder, a program and
cell is added for each scene. Title folders can also contain multiple title PGCs, with each
containing their own program and cell. In both instances the title is divided into parts,
which can be arranged in a particular order, individually linked, and searched for by the
viewer with the remote control.
The DVD Specification refers to these parts as Parts of Title (PTTs), though they are also
known as chapter stops or chapters. PTT flags on program icons are numbered based on the
order in which they are added to the title, and determine their playback order.
Multi-PGC Titles vs. Single PGC Titles
To ensure that DVD players can display time and chapter information on their LCD displays,
the DVD Specification requires that titles have a single PGC and all programs within the title
have a PTT number. Violating this rule may cause the DVD player to display incorrect
chapter and time information. However, if time display is not critical, it is acceptable to use
multiple PGCs in a title to facilitate navigation.
