About Menus 125
Menu Types
System menus, which are accessed from buttons on the remote control, include:
• The Title menu, which is accessed by the TITLE key on the remote control, resides in the
Video Manager (VMG) and provides access to all video title set menus and titles on the
disc. The Title menu is created by adding a menu track to a language folder in the VMG.
• The Root menu, which is accessed by the MENU key on the remote control, resides
within a video title set (VTS) and provides access to submenus and titles within the same
VTS. Root menus are created by adding a menu track to a language folder in a VTS.
• Subpicture, Audio, Angle, and PTT (Part of Title) menus reside within each VTS and are
used to change the subpicture, audio, and angle streams, or to jump to a chapter point
within the title. These system menus, often referred to as submenus, are usually accessed
with the Subpicture, Audio, Angle, and PTT buttons in conjunction with the M
ENU button
on the remote control. Submenus are created by adding a menu track to a language
folder in a VTS, and then setting the Menu ID to the menu type you want.
Note: Not all DVD players have remote control buttons for Subpicture, Audio, Angle, and
Part of Title. If you create menus in these locations, make sure to provide links to them from
the root menu.
Non-system menus are similar to system menus in that they too have a subpicture and
button highlights. However, non-system menus, which can reside anywhere on the disk,
cannot be accessed directly from the remote control. While system menus generally provide
control over certain playback characteristics, non-system menus can provide more specific
interactivity related to story direction.
