92 Chapter 6, Registering Assets
Registering Assets in the Track and Scenario Editors
It is possible to register some assets by dragging them from Windows Explorer directly to
the Track Editor and Scenario Editor. When dragging to a track folder in the Track Editor, a
track and scene are created with the asset automatically being registered. When dragging to
a title or language folder in the Scenario Editor, a PGC, program, cell, track, and scene are
created with the asset automatically being registered.
While this may seem to be a more expedient way of working, it not the most logical
approach in the long run. For example, when you drag a video asset from Windows Explorer
directly to the Scenario Editor, it only contains a single cell for the beginning of the track. If
you later add additional scenes to the track in the Track Editor, the scenes must then be
dragged to the Scenario Editor if you want to link to them. However, if a track is first created
in the Track Editor (with the necessary scenes and streams already added), you can then
drag the completed track to the Scenario Editor and each of the required PGC objects (with
a program and cell for each scene) will be created.
In general, it makes most sense to observe the workflow discussed in “Authoring Workflow”
on page 12. First register and organize assets in the Data Editor; next build tracks by adding
streams, scenes, and button highlights in the Track Editor; then create PGCs by dragging
tracks to the Scenario Editor.
Also, not all assets can be registered by dragging to certain destinations in the Track Editor
and Scenario Editor. For example, audio, subpicture, and angle assets cannot be dragged to
the Scenario Editor; they can only be dragged to an asset folder in the Data Editor or a track
timeline in the Track Editor.
