Creating a DVD Volume 97
To play the DVD volume using other DVD players
Software DVD players are designed to emulate a set-top player. They play DVD
discs the same way that a set-top player does. However, different players behave in
different ways when asked to play a DVD volume on a hard disk.
Some software players can play only DVD discs; they cannot play DVD video
from a CD-R or hard disk. Other players behave differently depending on the PC
on which they are installed. If a player does not play DVD video in one form —
for example, if it does not play DVD volumes on a hard disk — it may be able to
play the DVD video in another form, such as on a CD-R. The Mediabar DVD
player, for example, plays DVD video from CD-R but not from a hard disk.
The following players will play a DVD volume, but only if the Video_TS folder is
at the top level of the hard disk:
• Ravisent Cinemaster 99
• Sigma Hollywood Real Magic
The above players scan the drives connected to the PC. If they find the Video_TS
folder, they start playing its contents automatically.
The following players can play a DVD volume regardless of where it is on the
hard drive:
• Mediamatics
• Ravisent Cinemaster 2000
• Xing (discontinued)
To play a DVD volume using the above players, navigate to the Video_TS folder
within the DVD volume and select a file called “Video_TS.IFO”. This file contains
all the navigation and playback information for the DVD video. Once you select
the IFO file, the player starts playing the DVD video.
