Automatic Retake (automatically rewind)
In this mode, recording begins at the specified Start position and replaces any
sound data that already exists after that position. When recording is stopped,
the next record start position is automatically rewound to the original starting
position, allowing you to immediately do a retake which replaces the last take
if necessary.
Multiple Takes
This mode will record successive takes of data.
Punch-In (record a specific length)
This mode is used to record over the top of an existing region of sound. This
allows you to record a portion of a previous take without recording a whole
new file.
START, END, LENGTH, INPUT FORMAT
Use to change the selection. Sound Forge XP automatically fills in the values
depending on your selection or cursor position. The Input Format determines the
recording format for the Start, End, and Length of the file.
REVIEW PRE/POST-ROLL
Check this option to specify the amount of time that will be played prior to
and after reviewing a take. The pre- and post-roll times are entered in the edit
boxes and measured in seconds.
MONITOR
Select this box to monitor the level of the input signal. The meters light up as
a function of the volume of the recording input. For best results, the level
should be somewhere in the yellow range with an occasional red. This button
also activates the peak value. The peak value shows the maximum input level
recorded since the monitor input box has been checked. If the peak value reads
clip, clipping has occurred and the audio quality has been compromised.
Clicking on the peak value display will reset it.
