USING THE PREPARE BUTTON
The Prepare button is used when you need Sound Forge XP to begin recording
as soon as possible after selecting the Record button. The Prepare button opens the
wave device and loads all recording buffers in order to minimize the time
between selecting the Record button and the time the sound actually begins
recording.
Using the Prepare button is optional. However, selecting this button prior
to recording allows for more accurate takes in the Punch-In mode.
RECORDING MODES
Sound Forge XP has three modes of recording, which are selected from the
Mode drop-down list in the Record dialog. These are Automatic Retake (automatically
rewind), Multiple Takes, and Punch-In (record a specific length). Each mode is described
below.
AUTOMATIC RETAKE (AUTOMATICALLY REWIND)
The Automatic Retake mode is the easiest method of recording. Recording starts
at the position shown in the Start field when you select the Record button and
continues until you select the Stop button. Any data that is currently after the
position in the Start field will be replaced. When recording is stopped, the start
position is reset to the beginning of the take allowing an immediate review and
retake if desired.
Automatic Retake is the default mode when recording into an empty data
window or when you select the Record button with no data selected in the
current data window.
