1 Safety Information Please r ead an d f ollow al l safety w arnings i n t his U ser Manual for safe and effective use of your mobile phone. 1.1 Leak of radio frequency energy This phone is a low-power and wireless transmitter and receiver. The phone may interfere with some hearing-aid devices. In case of interference, please ask your hearing-aid manufacturer for a solution. 1.8 Other medical equipment If you personally use medical devices, consult your manufacturer to check if it can resist radio frequency signals. 3 Overview of the phone 1. 3.1 Keys of the phone Keys Description Move upward; Short press to set to mute state when there is a call; Up direction key on the left Short press to turn up volume during a call; Short press to enter into the ringing volume adjustment window in standby mode; Short press to enter into the media volume adjustment interface in media related interface.

Menu key ON/OFF key Press to enter the menu interface of the page. Press to switch on the phone: long press and then select OFF to switch off the phone. Press the key for a longer time to directly switch off the phone.
Short press to lock the screen and short press to light up the backlight in locking interface; In other interface, press Home key to return to Idle interface. Home key In Idle interface, press Home key to enter into contraction mode. Return key Return to the previous page or quit the operating module. 2. 3.2 Interfaces of the phone Interfaces Earphone jack Description On the top of the phone, used to connect the earphone.
Charger interface On the top of the phone, used to connect the charger and the data line TF card slot Under the battery, inside right of the phone. 4 Introduction to usage of the phone 4.1 Install and Remove the battery Mi501 is powered with a rechargeable l ithium battery. Please use the original battery provided by the manufacturer and installs the battery properly before using the phone.
3. 4.1.1 Install the battery Follow the procedures below in installing the battery: 1. Remove the cover by lifting it. 2. A lign t he ba ttery’s ex posed c opper c ontacts w ith t he battery c onnectors i nside t he bat tery c ompartment, pr ess the battery down until it locks into place. 3. A lign an d h ook t he b ack cover t o t he t op of t he b attery slot an d then pr ess t he ba ck cover down unt il i t l ocks i nto place. 4. 4.1.2 Remove the battery 1.
5. 4.1.3 Power display The battery power icon is displayed on the top left corner of the screen. When the power is already weak, a signal will be shown to display the current power and remind you of recharging. When t he p ower i s t oo l ow t o s upport the operation, t he phone will automatically switch off. Please r ead through the f ollowing not es b efore r echarging your battery. - Charge the battery for at least 4 hours when using it for the first time. - Batteries have life cycles.
Charging the battery: Make sure the battery is inserted before charging. 1. Plug i n t he c onnector at t he bottom of y our phon e ( USB interface) 2. Then plug the other end into an AC power socket. 3. The bat tery s ymbol w ill app ear i ndicating t he charging status of your phone. 4. When all the scroll bars are steady, the battery is fully charged. You can then disconnect the charger. 4.2 Installing and removing the SIM card Before you can fully use your handset, a S IM card must be installed first.
2. Ensure t hat t he clipped c orner of t he S IM c ard i s f acing the c orrect di rection and t he m etallic c ontacts are facing downwards. 3. Slide the SIM card into the card slot until it stops. 8. 4.2.2 Remove the SIM card Removing t he S IM c ard i s j ust t he opposite of t he installation procedure. 4.3 Inserting and removing the storage card This ha ndset has a T -flash c ard slot w ith a m aximum storage of 4GB. Lift the back cover up to remove it.
The procedure for removing the storage card is just opposite installation procedure. Note: P lease u se t he s torage c ard (T-Flash) pr oduced b y the recognized manufacturer. 4.3 Switch on and off 9. 4.3.1 Switch on Make s ure t he b attery an d SIM c ard i s pr operly i nserted before turning on your phone. When the phone is off, press the ON/OFF key to switch on. 4.3.2 Switch off In standby mode, a long press on the ON/OFF key will enter the options menu.
10. 4.3.3 Password lock You c an i ncrease the security of y our phon e by s etting a screen un lock pat tern. O nce s et, i n or der t o un lock y our screen, y ou’ll h ave t o dr aw t he c orrect u nlock pat tern. S ee “Location a nd security setup” f or t he de tails of pa ssword locks, password revision and other functions. 11. 4.3.4 PIN1 Your P IN1 ( Personal I dentification N umber) password c an protect your SIM card from unauthorized use.
13. 4.3.6 PUK To unlock locked SIM card, you must input PUK (PIN Unblocking K ey). T he P UK i s gen erally s upplied t ogether with the SIM card. If it is not provided or lost, please consult your service supplier. 14. 4.3.7 PUK2 Some SIM cards are provided with PUK2 to unlock the PIN2 locked. T his pa ssword i s g enerally s upplied t ogether w ith the SIM card. If it is not provided or lost, please consult your service supplier. 5 Call functions 5.

After dialling, p lease click t he H ang-up K ey t o end the call. 5.1.2 Make an international call In an alog k eyboard interface, pr ess a nd h old 0 K ey t ill “ +” appears on the screen, and then input the related national code and the complete phone number. For example, to dial a number in France, press and hold 0 key (until the sign “+” appears), input 33 ( French code) and then input the complete phone number. 16. 5.1.
18. 5.1.5 Answer a video call Slide the Answer Key to the right to answer a call. After dialling, press the Hang-up Key to end the call. 5.2 During a voice call During a v oice call, press the shortcut button on t he screen to complete the following functions: Mute: Mute the volume so the person you are talking to will not hear you. However, you will still be able to listen to the other line.
19. 5.2.1 Adjust the volume During a call, press the Upper cursor Key or Lower cursor Key on the side to turn up or down the volume of the receiver. 20. 5.2.2 New information The pr ompt f or new i nformation may app ear in t he state column during a call. 21. 5.2.3 Answer a new call If the call waiting function is enabled and there is a new call during a call in progress, a notification will show up on your screen.
Hang up: End the current call; Mute: Volume will be on silent mode; Dialling keyboard: Enter the dialling keyboard interface; Hands free: After switching to hands free mode, the current calling voice is played on the loudspeaker; Merge calls: With t his function, i t i s p ossible t o make a conference c all w ith s everal p ersons an d m ake a separate call with a designated participant; Bluetooth: Switching to Bluetooth earphone is allowed after it has been connected. 23. 5.2.

Hang-up: End a call. 5.3 Emergency call You c an m ake e mergency c alls as l ong a s y our c urrent location i s c overed by t he net work ar ea. E mergency numbers v ary by country a nd t hose number(s) i n y our mobile pho ne may n ot w ork in al l locations. S ometimes a n emergency call cannot be made due to network problems. 5.
Far-near exchange: The locations of far and near pictures will be exchanged. Bluetooth: Switching to Bluetooth earphone during a call is allowed after it has been connected. Hang-up: End a call. 6 Contacts You can manage the contact information on your phone and the SIM card from the contact list. You c an al so m ake ot her operations such as d ialling, sending a message and sharing a contact.
Delete: Delete one or several contacts; Import/Export: Share the contacts with the email or Bluetooth, or duplicate the contacts to the phone or the SIM card, or import and export the contacts from an SD card. Manage groups: Add a new group; Display tab: You can display the contacts with phone numbers only. 6.
Email: Add several email addresses; Instant message: Add several different instant messages; Postal address: Add several postal addresses; Organization: Add several organizations; Remarks: Add one remark or several remarks for a contact; Nickname: Add on e n ickname or several ni cknames f or a contact; Website: Add one website or several websites for a contact. 6.
7 Text messages and multimedia Messages You c an s end a s hort message ( SMS) and a m ultimedia message (MMS) to other terminals in the message option. 7.1 Create and send a short message (SMS) In the message interface, click new message (create a new message) and input the number in the receiver. While you input, the matching contact may be automatically displayed under the receiver.
Continue input or select the contact displayed or click the contact list icon on the right to select the corresponding one. In the menu, select to add a subject or an attachment, wherein pictures, video & audio episodes and slides can be inserted i nto t he at tachment, texts can be put i n t he i nput box. Afterwards, c lick t he S end bu tton on t he r ight t o s end t he multimedia message (MMS). 7.
7.5 Message setup: Storage setup: Set the number of short messages (SMS) and m ultimedia m essages ( MMS) t o be s tored. O nce i t reaches storage capacity, old messages will be automatically deleted. Short message (SMS) setup: C hoose f rom the following options: S et t he short message s ending r eport, ed it t he short message center phone number and manage the short messages in the SIM card.
8.1 Wireless & networks The phone s hall be s et ac cording t o y our n etwork s ervice provider, including: 24. 8.1.1 Airplane mode In ai rplane m ode, the phone’s w ireless connections w ill temporarily stop. 25. 8.1.2 WLAN and Settings This option lets you open WLAN, set and manage wireless access points. 26. 8.1.3 Bluetooth and settings Activate B luetooth an d m anage c onnection w ith ot her devices. 27. 8.1.4 Virtual private network settings Add the virtual private network. 28. 8.1.
8.2 Call settings Call settings include: fixed dialling, video call, voice mail and other call settings. 29. 8.2.1 Fixed dialling Fixed di alling en ables u ser t o di al several phone nu mbers. The number without a fixed dialling setting cannot be dialled. Enter f ixed di alling, en able t he f unction, i nput P IN2 (provided by t he op erator) to ena ble t he f ixed di alling function. ( If activated, s elect disable t o s top f ixed di alling function.
31. 8.2.3 Voice mail Set voice mail number. Caution: You need to apply to your service provider for the voice mail service to be enabled. For more information, please contact your local service provider. 32. 8.2.4 Other call settings Call forwarding This allows you to divert a call in your phone to another number designated by the user.
Caution: You ar e r equired t o i nput t he c orrect p hone num ber w hen activating the call forwarding option. Doing so will properly divert the incoming call to the designated number. Call barring Outgoing call barring: Select to bar all calls. You may also select to bar international calls and allow domestic calls only. Incoming call barring: S elect t o bar al l calls o r r oaming calls. Barring password change: C hange Enable/Disable c all baring password.
Ringer mode is a gr oup of preset specific definitions for the convenience of rapid start-up. The phone provides a group of def ault m odes, i ncluding: normal m ode, outdoor mode, v ibration m ode, q uiet m ode and airplane mode. Each mode is provided with a set of default values. The user can m odify and s ave t hem i n t he m ode a s de sired (excluding quiet mode and airplane mode). 33. 8.3.
Vibration for incoming calls: Set to vibrate when a call comes. Notice tone: Set the default tone for notices. Flashing notice indicator: A t racking i ndicator w ill f lash when you receive a new notice. Key beep: Set to play key sound when using dialling keyboard. Select beep: S et t o pl ay s ound w hen s electing op tions o n the screen. Touch response: Set to vibrate when pressing the soft key and performing some UI interactions. SD card notice: Set t o use the sound effect when playing the SD card.
8.4 Location and security 35. 8.4.1 My location Use wireless network: View the location in the Applications via a wireless network. Use GPS satellite: When positioning, the accuracy is set to street level. 36. 8.4.2 Screen unlock picture To pr otect y our pr ivacy, y ou c an enable a s creen u nlock picture. In order to unlock your phone, you need to draw the screen unlock picture. The photo can be changed or deleted. 37. 8.4.
Change the PIN of the SIM card: Change the PIN code of your SIM card. 38. 8.4.4 Password Password visible: Choose this option to make the text visible when typing your password. 39. 8.4.5 Credential storage Use security credential: Allow the Applications to visit the security credentials and other credentials. Install from the SD card: Install the encrypted certificate. Password setup: Set or c hange credential storage password.
Unknown source: Choose whether to install applications downloaded from a non-electronic market or not. 54. 10.1.1 Photo camera To enter into the viewfinder interface, click the Camera key in the main menu or simply press and hold the camera key. Press Shoot key to take a photo, and click the thumbnail on the top right to preview the taken photo. In the preview interface, slide the left bar or press menu key to enter the camera setup interface, specifically: Viewfinder types: S elect f rom A uto t ype or n ight s cene type.
10.1.2 Video camera To enter into the video camera viewfinder interface, click on the v ideo c amera k ey i n t he main m enu or pr ess and hold the camera key to switch to the video camera. Press the Shoot key to take a short film. To preview the film, click the thumbnail on the top right.
10.2 Image library In t he i mage l ibrary, y ou can s elect photos an d v ideos t o delete or share. You c an share y our pho tos t hrough E mail, B luetooth o r Messages. The i mage l ibrary al so has C amera S ettings f unction, specifically: Normal setup: Set the display size, storage order of the photos an d v ideos, an d di splay c onfirmation i nformation before deleting a photo or video.

10.5 Voice recorder This handset has a voice recorder that you can turn on to record a c all conversation or ot her a mbient sounds. T he recording files are saved in the format .amr.
