ON THE ROAD AGAIN …… or better said, in my case, "IN THE AIR
AGAIN". Thanks to my new Mobie from Solax. Let me tell you why I am
so happy about being able to fly again.
I can't walk. I have both Parkinson's Disease and severe osteoarthritis in my knees. In 14
years with PD I have become immobile and was confined to a wheel chair about 3 years
ago. Traveling by air became a hassle after that until I got my new Mobie.
I now travel "the Mobie Way". I transfer from a car or van to the Mobie at the terminal
curbside and drive it to the gate stopping along the way anywhere I want in the terminal.
I check in with the ticket agent and with the gate agent where the Mobie is tagged and
made ready for the cargo section. I pre-board driving my Mobie down the jet way to the
inside of the plane close enough to the front seat so I can transfer to that seat on my own.
My wife folds the Mobie into its compressed traveling position and gives it to airline
personnel who put it in the cargo section. Since it only weighs about 50 pounds, it is easy
for one person to handle.
When I arrive at my final destination, my Mobie is delivered to the front of the airplane
where I am seated. I transfer to it and am on the road again up the jetway. (I use airport
furnished wheel chairs for plane changes at intermediate stops.)
Airport and airline personnel have been amazed with my Mobie too. On my first trip, the
pilot, flight attendant and baggage handler all watched the Mobie being unfolded at my
seat, my getting on, turning the key and "taking off up the jetway". My wife told me they
all looked at each other in amazement and then at her and she told them "I was off to the
races." The Mobie has changed both of our lives for the better!
I have had the Mobie less than six months and have traveled to St. Louis and Chicago
already and am planning another trip soon to Florida. It is great to be in the air again.
