TheSolarEdgepowerharvestingsolutionisdesignedtomaximizethepoweroutputfromanytypeof
solarPhotovoltaic(PV)installationwhilereducingtheaveragecostperwatt.Thefollowingsections
describeeachofthesystem’scomponents.

SolarEdge Power Optimizer
TheSolarEdgepoweroptimizersareDC-DCconvertersconnectedtoPVmodulesinordertomaximize
powerharvestingbyperformingindependentMaximumPowerPointTracking(MPPT)atthemodule
level.
Thepoweroptimizersregulatethestringvoltageataconstantlevel,regardlessofstringlengthand
environmentalconditions.
Thepoweroptimizersincludeasafetyvoltagefunctionthatautomaticallyreducestheoutputofeach
poweroptimizerto1Vdcinthefollowingcases:
l Duringfaultconditions
l Thepoweroptimizersaredisconnectedfromtheinverter
l TheinverterON/OFFswitchisturnedOFF
l ThesafetyswitchontheConnectionUnitisturnedOFF
l TheinverterACbreakeristurnedOFF
l TheRapidShutdown(PVRSS)isinitiatedbyoneofthefollowingmethods:
o
InverterACbreakeristurnedOFF,orACtotheinverterisdisconnectedbyanothermethod
(intentionallyorasresultofafault)
o
InverterON/OFFswitchisturnedOFF
o
TheConnectionUnitisturnedOFF
EachpoweroptimizeralsotransmitsmoduleperformancedataovertheDCpowerlinetotheinverter.
