Loopback
This chapter will explain the screens presented as you use your
LANEXPERT to test for loopback mode on the LE80 and LE85.
7-1
The Loopback sends traffic to its own IP address through a remote
device. This remote device must be configured in an external loopback
mode to send the packets back to the LanExpert. In a reflector mode,
the remote swaps the source and destination addresses. In loopback, the
packets are not handled by the remote MAC they are just passed from the
receive portion of the phy to the transmit portion and the source and
destination addresses are unchanged. The two LanExpert ports can
both be independent source devices but do not provide the external
loopback function. This is a way to determine whether the external device
is working correctly or a way to pin down a failing node in a network.
Select LOOPBACK TEST from the HOME screen with the stylus. The
LANEXPERT starts looking for a link connection on either port. Once the
LANEXPERT links the Status Indicators (LEDs) for the Ports will turn to a
solid color depending on the speed it is connected. (i.e. Red = 10Mbit,
Orange = 100Mbit and Green = 1000Mbit).
