MaintenanceFreeBattery
IMPORTANT:Beforeyou attach the battery cables to the
battery, checkthe battery date.The battery date tells if the
battery must be charged.
1. Checkthe top and the side of the battery for the
location of the battery date (Figure 9).
2. If the batteryis put into service before the batterydate,
the battery cables can be attachedwithout charging the
battery.See"How To Install The BatteryCables".
3. If the batteryis put into service afterthe batterydate,
the batterymust be charged. See"How To Charge The
Maintenance FreeBattery".
Howto ChargetheMaintenance Free Battery
,_ WARNING:Whenyou chargethe battery, do not
smoke. Keepthebatteryaway from any sparks.The
fumesfrom the batteryacid can causean
explosion.
1. Remove the batteryand batterytray.
2. Remove the protective cap from the batteryterminal.
3. Use a 12 volt battery charger to charge the battery.
Chargeat a rate of 6 amperesfor one hour. If you do
not havea battery charger, have an authorized service
center charge the battery.
4. Install the batteryand batterytray. Make sure the
positive (+) terminal is on the left side.

WARNING:To preventsparks,fasten thered cable
to the positive(+) terminal before you connectthe
blackcable.
Usethe fasteners shown below to install the batterycables.
The fasteners are shown at full size.
