INSPECTING AND
INITIAL ASSEMBLY
WARNING: ALWAYS ENSURE THAT THE FIREARM IS
UNLOADED BEFORE INSPECTING OR ASSEMBLING
AND ALWAYS KEEP THE MUZZLE POINTED IN A SAFE
DIRECTION.
Your Smith & Wesson i-Bolt™ rifle comes completely assembled
from the factory except for the bolt, which has been removed and
is packed separately in the shipping carton.
INSPECT
Grasp the rifle, keeping your finger outside the trigger guard
and off the trigger, point the muzzle in a safe direction.
Check for yourself to ensure
that the magazine is unloaded
(Figure 4)
.
Look into the receiver and
check the chamber to be
sure that it too is unloaded
(Figure 5).
The safety button, located on
the right side at the rear of the
receiver, has three positions
that are set by the user:
Full back - “SAFE” position.
Center - “LOADING” position.
Full forward - “FIRE” position.
Place safety selector button
in the “loading” position when
preparing to install the bolt
(Figure 6).
You must follow this procedure
every time a firearm leaves your
hand, is cleaned, handed to you
or another person, transported
or stored.
