ylinder force can be determed by using the table
or the following formulas below to calculate the
theoretical cylinder power:

At retraction, the force is lower because the rod reduces
the available piston area.
Load rating should be around 70% for ordinary
cylinder movements and around 50% for slow moving.
Check available pressure (as a basic rule, SMC uses the
column for 0.5 MPa).
Example: For cylinder force 1 000 N, choose cylinder
bore 63 mm: 1 000 (force) ÷ 0.7 (maximum load rate
70%) ≈ 1 428, the next higher cylinder force in the col-
umn for 0.5 MPa is 1 559 N corresponding bore 63.
