Setting Community Access Strings
You may configure up to five community strings authorized for
management access. For security reasons, you should consider removing
the default strings.
Fields and Attributes
• Community String – A community string acts as a password and
permits access to the SNMP protocol.
• Access Mode
• Read-Only – Specifies read-only access. Authorized management
stations are only able to retrieve MIB objects.
• Read/Write – Specifies read-write access. Authorized
management stations are able to both retrieve and modify MIB
objects.
Web Interface
Click SNMP. Enter a new string in the Community String box and select
the access rights from the Access Mode drop-down list, then click “Add.”
Command Line Interface
The following example adds the string “spiderman” with read/write
access.
Console(config)#snmp-server community spiderman rw 3-45
Console(config)#
