Please read these instructions carefully before using the carbon
monoxide alarm. Retain this information in a safe and easily
accessible place for future use and maintenance. If you have any
questions or if you are looking for additional information about your
carbon monoxide alarm or prevention of carbon monoxide poisoning,

• Description: Battery powered carbon monoxide alarm with an
electrochemical sensor with a lifetime of 10 years. This apparatus
contains 2 x DC 3V AA 1,5VDC LR6 Alkaline batteries with a
lifetime of 3 years and is supplied with wall plugs and screws.
• Function: Carbon monoxide alarm device intended to alert
persons in case of carbon monoxide to give them time to react
properly to the danger.
• Scope of application: Carbon monoxide alarm for buildings with
residential function.
IMPORTANT:
• Caution: The alarm is designed in order to detect carbon
monoxide; it cannot prevent a leakage!
• Caution: The carbon monoxide alarm may not be painted or
covered because this may cause loss of functionality.
• Warning: The carbon monoxide alarm must be replaced no later
than 10 years after production date.

WHAT IS CARBON MONOXIDE
Carbon Monoxide (CO) is an insidious poison that is released when
fuels are burnt. It is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas and
therefore very difficult to detect with the human senses. CO kills
hundreds of people each year and injures many more. It binds to the
hemoglobin in the blood and reduces the amount of oxygen being
circulated in the body. In high concentrations, CO can kill in minutes.
CO is produced by the incomplete combustion of fuels such as
wood, charcoal, coal, heating oil, paraffin, petrol, natural gas,
propane, butane etc. Examples of CO sources:
Running engine in garage Gas appliances
Oil and Gas furnaces Portable generators
Wood stoves Gas or kerosene heaters
Barbecues Clogged chimneys
Wood and gas fireplaces Heating boiler
SYMPTOMS OF CO POISONING
The following symptoms may be related to CO poisoning (ppm =
parts per million/ 1:1000.000):
35 ppm The maximum allowable concentration for continuous
exposure for healthy adults in any 8 hour period.
200 ppm Slight headaches, fatigue, nausea after 2-3 hours.
400 ppm Frontal headaches within 1-2 hours, life threatening
after 3 hours.
800 ppm Dizziness, nausea and convulsions within 45 minutes.
Unconsciousness within 2 hours. Death within 3 hours.
1600 ppm Headache, dizziness and nausea within 20 minutes.
Death within 1 hour.
6400 ppm Headache, dizziness and nausea within 1-2 minutes.
Warning: the apparatus may not prevent the chronic effects of CO
exposure or protect individuals who are at specific risk, always pay
attention to the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.
LOCATING THE CO ALARM
The Carbon Monoxide alarm is designed to detect the toxic CO
fumes that result from incomplete combustion, such as those emitted
from appliances, furnaces, fireplace and auto exhaust. If your
dwelling is on a single story, for minimum protection you should fit an
alarm in the bedrooms or in the hallway of sleeping areas. Place it
as near to the sleeping areas as possible and ensure the alarm is
audible when the bedrooms are occupied. If your dwelling is multi-
story, for minimum protection place at least one alarm on each floor.
NOTE: For maximum protection an alarm should be fitted in or near
every room that contains a fuel-burning appliance such as any gas
fires, central heating boilers, room heaters, water heaters, cookers,
grills, etc.
CAUTION: This alarm will only indicate the presence of carbon
monoxide gas at the sensor. Carbon monoxide gas may be present
in other areas.
Warning: a carbon monoxide alarm does not function as a
replacement for a smoke or gas detector.
POSITIONING THE CO ALARM
Carbon monoxide (CO) has a similar density to warm air and, to
ensure that the most effective use is made of the detector, it should
be fitted as follows: In rooms with a fuel-burning appliance CO will
mix with the warm air and rise up. Place the CO alarm on a the wall,
30-80 cm below the ceiling but above the top of any doors or
windows at a horizontal distance of minimum 150cm from the
possible source of CO. It is also optional to place the alarm on a
ceiling.
In rooms where people sleep or are present for a longer period of
time (bedroom, living room) place the CO alarm at breathing height.

Areas to be avoided include the following:
• Situations where the temperature may fall below -10°C or rise
above 40°C
• Any area where high levels of dusty, dirty or greasy emissions
could contaminate or clog the sensor.
• Behind drapes or furniture.
• In the path of air discharged from a furnace / air conditioning vent
or ceiling fan.
• Outside the building.
• Directly above a sink or cooker.
• In areas where there are a lot of lampback and dust which will
block up the sensor.
• In too damp areas.
CAUTION: This carbon monoxide alarm is designed for indoor use
only. Do not expose to rain or moisture. It will not protect against the
risk of carbon monoxide poisoning when the battery has drained. Do
not open or tamper with the alarm as this could cause malfunction
and risk of electric shock.
INSTALLING THE CO ALARM
Before mounting your CO alarm, you have to attach the rating label
in your own language to the detector.
In order to ensure the product is correctly installed and used, it
should be installed strictly according to this user manual or be
installed by qualified professional personnel. This CO alarm is
powered by a battery and requires no additional wiring. Make sure
the alarm can be heard from all sleeping areas or place several
alarms.
Wall mount installation:
• Having established the mounting location ensure that there is no
electrical wiring or pipe work in the area adjacent to the mounting
surface.
• Mark the mounting hole location, drill a ø 5mm and 40 mm depth
hole in the marked position and insert the wall plug.
• Insert the screw provided until the screw head is 5mm from the
wall. Screw on the mounting bracket, do not overtighten.
• Remove the plastic sealing from the batteries and insert them into
the battery compartment. Make sure that you fit the batteries in
accordance with the polarity markings (+ or -) within the battery
compartment. If correctly installed, the alarm will give a short
beep. It indicates that the power supply is normally connected, and
that the indicator lights and buzzer are working normally.
Assemble the alarm onto the mounting plate (see image 4).
OPERATING YOUR CO ALARM
Normal Operation
When no carbon monoxide is present, the green “Power” indicator
LED flashes every 40 seconds and is an indication that your alarm is
powered and functional.
Fault indicator
If the unit chirps twice every 8 seconds and the yellow “Fault” LED
flashes, the CO alarm is not functioning properly. The CO alarm will
not detect CO and you are not protected. Contact Smartwares for
assistance.
Alarm Condition
When the unit detects dangerous levels of CO, it will emit an alarm
signal of 4 beeps followed by 5 seconds of silence along with
flashing of the red “Alarm” LED. For the first 10 seconds the alarm
sound will be less intrusive and sound an alarm at less than 85dB.
After 10 seconds normal sound volume will be reached. This will
continue as long as there is a dangerous level of CO present.
Should the CO levels return to normal, the unit will stop beeping and
return to standby mode automatically.

The alarm response time of this detector complies with EN
50291-1:2018.
ALARM SILENCE function
If the CO alarm is in alarm modus, the sound can be hushed for 10
minutes by pressing the “Test/Silence” button firmly. The red “alarm”
indicator will continue flashing and the alarm sound will recommence
if the CO level is still > 50ppm ten minutes after starting hush mode.
NOTE: The alarm sound cannot be silenced when the CO
concentration is above 200 PPM.
Returning to normal operation
When the carbon monoxide gas disperses and the unit has been
reset, the alarm signal will stop. The green power lamp will continue
to flash approximately every 40 seconds.
Low battery warning
When the battery is empty, the alarm will beep once every 40
seconds and yellow “Fault” LED indicator will flash. Replace the
batteries immediately with new batteries as specified for this alarm
and test the alarm.
Low battery warning silence
When the alarm is giving the low battery warning, the sound can be
silenced for 9 hours by pressing the test/silence button firmly. The
alarm will still be functional during this time. The yellow “fault”
indicator will flash.
End of life warning
When your co alarm needs replacing, the unit will beep 3 times for
every 40 seconds and yellow “fault” indicator LED will flash. Do not
replace the batteries, but replace the entire co alarm. Register for

End of life warning silence
When the alarm is giving the end of life warning, the sound can be
silenced for 9 hours by pressing the test/silence button firmly. The
alarm will still be functional during this time. The yellow ‘fault”
indicator will flash.
TESTING YOUR CO ALARM
It is recommended that you test your CO alarm once a month to
ensure the alarm is working correctly by pressing and holding the
test button on the front of the alarm. The alarm will sound 4 beep
tones followed by 5 seconds of silence and the red LED will flash at
the same time.
MAINTAINING YOUR CO ALARM
Your alarm will alert you to potentially hazardous CO concentrations
in your home when maintained properly. To maintain your alarm in
proper working order, it is recommended that you:
• Test your alarm at least once a month.
• Clean your CO alarm regularly to prevent dust build up. This can
be done using a vacuum cleaner with the brush attachment once
per month. Clean gently around the front grilled section and sides.
• Never use cleaning solutions on your alarm. Simply wipe with a
damp cloth.
• Do not paint the alarm.
• Do not block or cover the alarm’s venthole with paste adhesive or
other things.
ATTENTION:
When scouring or stripping a wooden floor, painting, wallpapering or
using adhesive or aerosol, you should remove the carbon monoxide
detector and keep it in a safe place to prevent damaging the sensor.
High concentrations of the following substances can damage the
sensor, which often results in a false alarm: methane, propane,
isopropyl butane, ethylene, ethanol, alcohol, isopropyl alcohol,
benzene, toluene, ethyl acetate, hydrogen, hydrogen sulfate and
sulfur dioxide. Also aerosol sprays, alcoholic products, paint,
solvents, adhesive, hair spray, aftershave, perfume and certain
cleaning agents can cause damage.
WHAT TO DO IN THE EVENT OF AN ALARM
In the event the CO alarm raises an alarm:
Immediately move to fresh air outdoor or open all doors/windows to
ventilate the area and allow the carbon monoxide to disperse. Where
possible turn off fuel burning appliance. Evacuate the building and
do not re-enter the premises nor move away from the open door/
window until emergency services responders have arrived, the
premises have been aired out, and your alarm remains in its normal
condition. Seek medical help immediately for anyone suffering from
the symptoms of headache, drowsiness, nausea, etc. Do not use the
appliances again until they have been checked by a qualified
technician and the fault located and cleared.
This product is not designed for use in a recreational vehicle or
mobile home. The alarm should be installed by a competent person.
This apparatus is designed to protect individuals from the acute
effects of carbon monoxide exposure. It will not fully safeguard
individuals with specific medical conditions. If in doubt consult a
medical practitioner.
The installation of this CO alarm should not be used as a substitute
for proper installation, use and maintenance of fuel burning
appliances including appropriate ventilation and exhaust systems.

WAS IST KOHLENMONOXYD?
Kohlenmonoxyd (CO) ist ein giftiges Gas, welches schleichend bei
der Verbrennung von Kraftstoff entsteht. Es ist geschmacks- und
geruchlos und kann daher kaum mit den menschlichen Sinnen
wahrgenommen werden. Durch CO-Kontamination erleiden jährlich
viele Menschen Vergiftungen, hunderte kommen infolge ihrer
Vergiftung ums Leben. Kohlenmonoxyd bindet das Hämoglobin im
Blut und wirkt sich somit negativ auf die Sauerstoffsättigung im
menschlichen Körper aus. Bei entsprechend hoher Konzentration
führt eine Kohlenmonoxyd-Vergiftung innerhalb von wenigen
Minuten zum Tod. Kohlenmonoxyd entsteht durch die unvollständige
Verbrennung von Holz, Holzkohle, Kohle, Heizöl, Paraffin, Benzin,
Erdgas, Propan, Butan usw. Nachfolgend einige Beispiele für
mögliche Entstehungsquellen von hohen CO-Konzentrationen:
Laufender Motor in einer Garage Gasgeräte
Öl- und Gasheizungen Mobile Generatoren
Kaminöfen Gas- oder Kerosin-Heizgeräte
Grillgeräte Verstopfte Kamine
Holz- und Gaskamine Heizkessel
SYMPTOME EINER CO-VERGIFTUNG
Die folgenden Symptome lassen auf eine mögliche CO-Vergiftung
schließen (ppm = parts per million/ 1:1000.000):
35 ppm Die maximal zulässige Konzentration für eine
dauerhafte Exposition bei gesunden Erwachsenen
über 8Stunden.
200 ppm Leichte Kopfschmerzen, Müdigkeit, Übelkeit nach
2-3Stunden.
400 ppm Frontal-Kopfschmerzen binnen 1-2Stunden,
lebensbedrohlich nach 3Stunden.
800 ppm Schwindel, Übelkeit und Krämpfe binnen 45Minuten.

Warnung: Das Gerät kann nicht die chronischen Folgen einer CO-
Exposition verhindern oder Personen mit einem spezifischen Risiko
schützen. Achten Sie daher stets auf die Symptome einer
Kohlenmonoxidvergiftung
PLATZIERUNG DES CO-MELDERS
Der CO-Melder ist dafür vorgesehen, giftige CO-Dämpfe zu
erkennen, die durch eine unvollständige Verbrennung entstehen
(z.B. durch Geräte, Öfen, Kamine und Autoabgase). Falls Ihre
Wohnung nur eine Etage hat, sollten Sie zum minimalen Schutz
einen Melder in den Schlafzimmern oder im Flur von
Schlafbereichen platzieren. Bringen Sie ihn möglichst nahe an den
Schlafbereichen an und sorgen Sie dafür, dass der Melder zu hören
ist, wenn die Schlafzimmer belegt sind. Bei mehreren Etagen ist zum
minimalen Schutz mindestens ein Melder pro Etage vorzusehen.
HINWEIS: Für einen maximalen Schutz sollte ein Melder in jedem
Raum oder in dessen Nähe platziert werden, in dem sich eine
Feuerstätte befindet (z.B. Gasheizungen, Zentralheizkessel,
Raumheizgeräte, Wasserboiler, Herde, Grillgeräte usw.).
VORSICHT: Das Gerät schlägt bei erhöhten CO-Konzentrationen im
unmittelbaren Sensorbereich an. Beachten Sie, dass auch in
anderen Bereichen eine erhöhte CO-Konzentration vorliegen kann.
Achtung: CO-Melder ersetzen in keinem Falle Rauch- oder andere
Gasmelder.
POSITIONIERUNG DES CO-MELDERS
Kohlenmonoxid (CO) hat eine ähnliche Dichte wie warme Luft. Damit
der Melder möglichst effizient funktioniert, sollte er wie folgt
angebracht werden: In Räumen mit einer Feuerstätte vermischt sich
CO mit der warmen Luft und steigt auf. Bringen Sie den CO-Melder
an der Wand (30-80cm unterhalb der Decke), aber oberhalb von
Türen oder Fenstern in einem horizontalen Abstand von mindestens
150cm von der potenziellen CO-Quelle an. Der Melder kann auch
an der Decke angebracht werden.
In Räumen, in denen Menschen schlafen oder sich längere Zeit
aufhalten (Schlafzimmer, Wohnzimmer), bringen Sie den CO-Melder
in Atemhöhe an. Für weitergehende Hinweise und Beispiele siehe
www.smartwares.eu.
Für die Nutzung ungeeignet sind folgende Bereiche:
• Bereiche, in denen die Umgebungstemperatur auf unter -10°C
fallen bzw. über 40°C steigen kann.
• Bereiche, in denen aufgrund hoher Staub-, Schmutz- oder
Sprühnebelbelastung mit starker Verschmutzung und einem
Ausfall des Sensors zu rechnen ist.
• Hinter Vorhängen oder Möbelstücken.
• Im Bereich von Warmluftströmen aus Öfen, Klimaanlagen oder
Lüftern.
• Im Außenbereich.
• Direkt oberhalb von Spülbecken oder Küchenherden.
• Wo viel Ruß oder Staub den Sensor blockieren könnte
• Zu feuchte Bereiche
VORSICHT: Dieser CO-Melder ist nur für den Innenbereich
vorgesehen. Er darf weder Regen noch Feuchtigkeit ausgesetzt
werden. Wenn die Batterie leer ist, schützt er schützt mehr vor der
Gefahr einer Kohlenmonoxidvergiftung. Der Melder darf weder
geöffnet noch manipuliert werden, weil dies zu Fehlfunktionen und
der Gefahr eines Stromschlags führen könnte.
MONTAGE DES CO-MELDERS
Bevor Sie den CO-Melder installieren, müssen Sie das Typenschild
in Ihrer jeweiligen Landessprache am Melder anbringen.
Um sicherzustellen, dass das Produkt korrekt installiert und benutzt
wird, sollte es strikt nach den Anweisungen in diesem Handbuch
oder von Fachpersonal montiert werden. Dieser CO-Melder wird von
einer Batterie gespeist und braucht keine zusätzliche Verdrahtung.
Achten Sie darauf, dass der Melder in allen Schlafräumen zu hören
ist, oder bringen Sie mehrere Melder an.
Wandmontage:
• Achten Sie bei der Installation insbesondere auf elektrische
Unterputzleitungen oder Rohre im Bereich der
Montagebohrungen.
• Markieren Sie das Befestigungsloch, bohren Sie ein Loch mit
5mm Durchmesser und 40mm Tiefe an dieser Stelle und setzen
Sie den Dübel ein.
• Drehen Sie die mitgelieferte Schraube hinein, bis der
Schraubenkopf 5mm von der Wand entfernt ist. Schrauben Sie
die Montagehalterung fest. Nicht zu stark anziehen.
• Entfernen Sie die Plastikversiegelung von den Batterien und
setzen Sie sie in das Batteriefach ein. Achten Sie darauf, die
Batterien gemäß der Polaritätskennzeichnung (+ oder -) im
Batteriefach einzusetzen. Bei korrekter Installation gibt der Melder
einen kurzen Piepton ab. Dies bedeutet, dass die
Stromversorgung intakt ist und die Kontrollleuchten und der
Summer normal funktionieren. Befestigen Sie den Melder auf der
Montageplatte (siehe Abb. 4).
BEDIENUNG DES CO-MELDERS
Normalbetrieb
Wenn kein Kohlenmonoxid vorhanden ist, blinkt die grüne LED
„Power“ alle 40Sekunden als Hinweis darauf, dass Ihr Alarm
eingeschaltet und betriebsbereit ist.
Fehleranzeige
Wenn das Gerät zweimal alle 8Sekunden piept und die gelbe LED
„Fault“ blinkt, funktioniert der CO-Alarm nicht korrekt. Der CO-Melder
kann kein Kohlenmonoxid feststellen und Sie sind nicht geschützt.

Alarmstatus
Sobald das Gerät eine gefährliche CO-Konzentration misst, werden
jeweils 4 Warntöne in Intervallen von jeweils 5 Sekunden erzeugt.
Gleichzeitig blinkt die rote Alarm-LED. Innerhalb der ersten 10
Sekunden bleibt die Lautstärke des Warntons auf einem mäßigen
Niveau von unter 85 dB. Nach Ablauf von 10 Sekunden wird die
Lautstärke des Warntons auf das maximale Niveau erhöht. Der
Alarm steht an, bis die CO-Konzentration wieder auf ein
unbedenkliches Niveau gefallen ist. Sobald die CO-Konzentration
wieder auf ein unbedenkliches Niveau gefallen ist, wechselt das
Gerät automatisch zurück in den Standby-Betrieb.
