Welcome to FlashPath •••••• Welcome to FlashPath FlashPath is an electronic device shaped like a 3.5-inch floppy diskette; it fits into and works from a 3.5-inch 1.44MB floppy disk drive. FlashPath has a slot in the side that accepts the Secure Digital Memory Card or MultiMediaCard. To read data, images, audio and other files from your digital appliance, simply remove the Secure Digital Memory Card or MultiMediaCard from the digital appliance and insert it into FlashPath.
Welcome to FlashPath Features and Benefits FlashPath has many features and benefits to simplify your digital lifestyle: • Ready to use immediately with your 3.5-inch floppy drive after the software is installed and the computer is restarted. There's no need for cumbersome power supplies or cables. • Easy to use and interchangeable among desktops and laptops. You can use FlashPath on both your home and office PC even if they have different operating systems and configurations.
Welcome to FlashPath 1 Insert your FlashPath software CD into the CD ROM drive. 2 Follow the directions on the screen to install the FlashPath software. 3 Setup, by default, copies the FlashPath files to the directory: C:\Program Files\SMARTDISK\FLASHPATH 4 Once the FlashPath software installation is complete, Select “Yes, I want to restart my computer now”, click Finish. Note: The FlashPath will not work until you reboot your PC.
Using FlashPath •••••• Using FlashPath This chapter describes how to transfer files between your PC and the Secure Digital Memory Card or MultiMediaCard. This chapter also describes FlashPath status and how to delete files from the Secure Digital Memory Card or MultiMediaCard. Transferring Files 1 Insert the Secure Digital Memory Card or MultiMediaCard into the FlashPath with the electronic contacts facing away from the metallic top cover of the FlashPath. 2 Insert the FlashPath into the floppy drive.
Using FlashPath 2 In Microsoft Windows Explorer, click on the file(s) you want to delete and select File/Delete from the menu bar (or press the Delete key). Status Monitor The Status Monitor icon is automatically loaded into the System Tray at installation. FlashPath Status Monitor The Status Monitor displays the condition of the FlashPath as of the last time the drive was accessed.
Using FlashPath Status Monitor Messages Status Monitor Messages pop-up automatically when you position your cursor over the Status Monitor icon. Message Condition Corrective Action Diskette Mode No FlashPath with a Secure Digital Memory Card or MultiMediaCard in Drive Insert Secure Digital Memory Card or MultiMediaCard into FlashPath and insert FlashPath into the drive. Normal Operation Computer able to read and write to FlashPath None.
Using FlashPath The batteries in the FlashPath are very low. Low Battery Warning Writes to the Secure Digital Memory Card or MultiMediaCard will be disabled. Let computer complete reads or write; replace the batteries. Reads - enabled The battery in the FlashPath has reached a critical stage and will expire very quickly. Battery Critical Reads - disabled Writes - disabled Note: Flashpath will attempt to complete current write. Replace both batteries immediately.
Maintenance •••••• Maintenance This Chapter describes how to store your FlashPath, install batteries, and how to clean the FlashPath unit. This Chapter also describes how to uninstall the FlashPath software. Operating and Storage Conditions Avoid operating and storing the product in an environment subject to excessive temperature fluctuations that may result in condensation forming on the FlashPath. Do not store the Secure Digital Memory Card or MultiMediaCard in the FlashPath.
Maintenance To change batteries: 1 Place your FlashPath on a flat surface and gently press down on the battery cover. 2 Turn each cover counter-clockwise until the battery compartments are open. 3 Install new lithium button cells. Make sure that the positive side (marked with a + sign) is up and that the side spring contact is located on the side of the battery. The contact must not be trapped beneath the battery.
Maintenance 3 In the scrollable window, select FlashPath for SD Memory Card. 4 Press the Add/Remove button. You are asked to confirm the deletion of the software. 5 Click Yes. The FlashPath software is removed from your computer. If you are asked to remove a shared file, select Yes to All. The shared files are for FlashPath products only so other FlashPath products installed on your computer will be disabled. 6 When the uninstall is complete, click OK. 7 Reboot your computer.
Troubleshooting •••••• Troubleshooting Q A FlashPath is in sleep mode. What should I do? Eject the FlashPath from the floppy drive, wait a few seconds, and then reinsert it. Q A The computer does not recognize the FlashPath. Why? If you attempt to access the FlashPath while inserting it in the floppy disk drive, the FlashPath may not be recognized and the message: "The disk in drive A is not formatted" may be displayed accidentally.
Safety •••••• Safety For maximum safety, please observe the following warnings and cautions. WARNINGS Incorrect handling and/or operation could cause serious injury. When handling batteries: • Keep the batteries out of the reach of small children. If swallowed, poisoning or • • • • • • • • • • asphyxiation can result. Seek medical treatment immediately. Do not combine old and new batteries. Do not disassemble, modify, repair or charge the batteries.
Safety • Do not attempt to repair, modify or disassemble FlashPath. Doing so could result in fire, • • • • • • • • electric shock or injury. Do not make direct contact with or touch the pins (connecting surface) of the Secure Digital Memory Card or MultiMediaCard with metal. Data could be damaged or erased by static electricity. Do not turn the power off while downloading data from Secure Digital Memory Card or MultiMediaCard.
