9.15.4 Park Brake Switch
The park brake switch (Fig. 9-90, 1) is located on the
dash to the left of the steering column and is pressed or
snapped into a rectangular switch bezel. The park brake
switch must be ENGAGED to permit engine starting.
Note: The park brake may be used to stop in an
EMERGENCY situation; however, notify the operator to
use caution as the stop will be abrupt and the operator
and the load may be jolted forward unexpectedly.

The park brake switch is a two-position toggle switch; the
two positions are ENGAGED (Fig. 9-91, 1) and
DISENGAGED (2). The switch is marked with an
engaged (3) and disengaged (4) symbol. When engaged,
the park brake switch completes the park brake circuit.

ENGAGED and DISENGAGED
The park brake solenoids on the secondary function
valve (Fig. 9-92, 1) are normally de-energized, allowing
the park brake to engage. When the park brake solenoids
are energized, the park brake is disengaged. The system
is designed so that, when electrical power is OFF, the
park brake is engaged. (Refer to Section 9.13.4, Roof
Wiper Motor.)
