1. Battery
Fuel Tank
With the watercraft horizon tal, fill the
fuel ta nk to specifie d level.
Check fuel tank retaining st raps/
fasteners.
Engi ne Comp artment
WARNING
Should any leak or gasoline odor
be present, do not start the engine.

Engi ne Oil
Ensure oil leve l is appropriate as speci-
fied in
MAINTENA NCE PROCEDURES
section. Chec k for oi l leaks on engine
and in engine com partment.
Engi ne Coolant
Ensure coolant level is appropriate as
specified in
MAINTENANCE PROC E-
DURES
section. Check for coolant
leaks on engine, in bilge and from ride
plate.
WARNING
When operating t he engine while
the watercraft is ou t of the water,
the heat exchanger in the ride plate
may become very hot. Avoid any
contact with ride plate as burns
may occur.
Steering System and Side
Vanes (O.P.A.S.)
Assisted by another person, check
steering operation for free movement.
When the hand lebar is horizontal,
the jet pump nozzle should be in the
straight ahead position. The rear edge
of side vanes s hould be poi nting out-
side of watercraft by ap prox imat ely
20°. Ensure the jet pump nozzle and
side vanes pivot easily a nd in the s a m e
direction as the handlebar.
WARNING
Check handlebar and correspond-
ing steering nozzle operation be-
fore starting. Never turn handle-
bar while someone is nearby rear
of watercraft. Keep away from
steering moving parts (no zz le, side
vanes, linkage etc.).
Throttle Syste m
Check throttle lever for free and
smooth operation. It sh ould return
to its in itial position imm ediately after
it is released.
WARNING
Check th rottle lever operation be-
fore starting the en gine.
Shifter Sy stem
Check revers e gate operation for free
movement. With shift l ev er in forward
position, the gate should be i n upwar d
position; and o ffering a resistance to
go downward. With the shift lever in
neutral position, gate should be in mid-
