One Star – Low Emission
The one-sta r label identifies persona l watercraft, ou tboa rd, stern drive and in board
engines that meet the Air Resourc es Boa rd’s Personal Watercr a ft and Out-
board marine engine 2001 exhaust emission s t a nda rds . Engines meeting t hes e
standards have 75% lower emissions than conventional carbureted two -stroke
engines. These engines are equivalent to the U . S. EPA’ s 2006 standards for
marine engines.
Two Stars – Very Lo w Emiss i on
The two-star label identifies p ersonal watercraft, outboard , stern drive and inboard
engines that meet the Air R es ourc es Board’ s Person al Wa terc raft and Outboard
marine engine 2004 exhau st em iss ion standards . Engines meeting t hes e stan-
dards hav e 20% lower emiss ions tha n One Sta r - Low -E m iss ion engi nes .
