ENGINE EM ISSIO NS INFORM ATION
NO TE: Mai ntena nc e, re placem ent, or
repair of the emission co ntrol devices
and systems may be performed by any
marine SI (spark ignition) engine repa ir
establishments or individ ua l.
Manufacturer's
Responsibility
Beginn ing with 1999 model year en-
gines, PWC m a nufac t urers of m arine
engines must de term ine the exhaust
emission levels for eac h engine hors e-
power fami ly and certify thes e engines
with the United States of America En-
vironmen tal Protectio n Agency ( EPA).
An emissions control i nform a tion label,
showing emission levels and engine
specifications, must be pl aced on each
vehicle a t the time of m a nufac t ure.
Dealer's Re sponsibility
When performing service on all 1999
and more r ecent S ea -Doo watercraft
that carry an emissions control infor-
mation label, adjustments must be
kept w ithin published factory specifi-
cations.
Replacement or repair o f any em ission
related co mponent m us t be execu ted
in a manner that m a intain s emission
levels withi n the prescribed certifica-
tion st a ndards .
Dealers are not to m odify the engine in
any ma nner that would alter the hors e-
power or allow emission lev els to ex-
ceed their predetermined factory spec-
ifications.
Exceptions include manufacturer's
prescribed changes, such as altitu de
adjustments for example.
Ow ner Re s ponsibility
The owner/ opera tor is requi red to have
engine maintenanc e performed to
maintain emission levels within pre-
scribed certification standards.
The owner/ope rator is no t to, a nd
should not allow a nyone to modify the
engine in any manner that would alter
the horsepower or a ll ow em issions
levels to exceed their predetermined
factory specifications.
EPA Emission Regulatio ns
All 1999 and more recent Sea-D oo
watercraft manufa c tured by BR P are
certified to the EPA as conforming to
the requirem ents of the regulations for
the control of air pollution from new
watercraft engines. This certification
is contingent on certain adjustments
being set to factory standards. For
this reason, the factory procedure for
servicing the produc t must be strictly
followed and, w henever practicable,
returned to the original intent of the
design.
The re sponsibilities listed above are
general and in no wa y a com plete list-
ing of the rules and regulations per-
taining to the EPA requirements on ex-
haust emissions for marine products.
