Chapter 1: Installing the hard disk In a few steps, this manual will explain how to install a hard disk in the MD250. ● Use a screwdriver to remove the 2 screws on the backside of the drive case. ● Lift the backplate, and carefully remove the side panels according to the images. ● Lay down the drive case on a flat surface, with the cables pointing upwards.
● Connect the power cable and the IDE cable on the network drive case to the power and IDE connector on the hard disc. Note: Note2: Note3: The red wire on the IDE cable must be connected to 'Pin1' on your hard disc. Usually 'Pin1' points towards the power connector on the hard disc. Please make sure the jumper on the hard disc is set to 'master' position. Information about jumper settings and pin layout can usually be found on the label on your hard disc.
● Slide back the sides on the network drive case, and place the back plate. ● Fasten the back plate and drive case again, using the 2 screws.
Chapter 2: Connecting the network drive The network drive can be connected to your PC via 2 options. With USB cable or by network cable. You can use only 1 of the connections at the same time. 2.1: Connecting the network drive via the included USB cable If you connect the drive case using USB, the drivers will automatically be installed by Windows ME/2000/XP, Mac OS X, and Linux. The Network Drive can then be used as removable hard disk, and no additional configuration is needed. 2.
Chapter 3: Setting up the network drive case If you've purchased a new hard disc, it's usually not formatted. The MD-250 provides with a tool to format your hard disc. If you're using an older hard disc which is already formatted with FAT32 file system, there's no need to reformat the disc again. Note: The MD-250 supports only FAT32 file system to ensure compatibility with other operating systems. ● Open your web browser and enter http://Storage in the address bar.

Here, you can also setup password protection for your network shares. Note: If a folder is created, you have add it to the 'share list' before it the folder can be seen/used in your network. Chapter 4: Accessing the network shares (windows) ● To access files or folders on the network drive, you can go to 'Start' > 'Run' ● Type “\\storage” (or the name you've setup for the network drive) ● You can now see the shares, folders, and files on the network drive. It's also possible to 'map' a network drive so it will automatically be available every time you start your computer. ● To do so, please go to 'My Computer', select 'Tools' and click on 'Map Network Drive'.
