Asonarwilltransmitasoundwaveintothewateraroundthevessel.Whenthissound
wavehitssh,bottom,orotherobjectsinthewater,apartofthesoundwillbereturned
asechoes.Theseechoesarecollectedbythesonar,interpretedbythesonarcomputers,
andpresentedonthedisplay.
Themostimportantinterpretationishoweverlefttoyou,anditmayoftenbedifcultto
distinguishtheechoesandidentifythetargets.Inordertohelpyouwiththis,theSH90
sonarprovidesnumerousadvancedlterandgainfunctions.Y oucanalsotiltthesonar
beamverticallyinordertoachieveanoptimumresult,andyoucanusethevertical
slicetoview“across”thewatercolumn.
