5.8 PP Filter

The sonar is equipped with a ping-to-ping filter in order to

reduce all unwanted noise and echoes from the screen. The filter

has three different strengths:

PP FILTER..:

OFF

WEAK

*MEDIUM

STRONG

As the ping-to-ping filter compares the echoes from the last 2

(WEAK), 4 (MEDIUM) or 8 (STRONG) pings, it will take this

selected amount of pings to make a stable presentation when

changing most of the sonar functions.

When selecting PP Filter, an extra interference filter will also be

activated to reduce the interference from other vessels.

The filtering routine takes the vessel’s speed into consideration

when comparing the echoes from ping to ping.

Note that in rough seas, when the beam can easily miss the target

in several pings, the PP filter should be used with care.
