The computerized electronic unit is located in the bottom
section of the console, and performs the following functions:
· Interfacing of the control panel
· Interfacing external connections (log, gyro, etc.)
· Generating the total display presentation
· Generating the audio of the echo signal
· Controlling theseriallinecommunicationtothetransceiver
Theloudspeaker,whichismountedinsidetheelectronicunit,
reproduces the audio of the echoes for the selected audio
channel.
2.3 Transceiver Unit
The Transceiver Unit is located in the sonar room, close to the
Hull Unit. The unit contains the following modules, seen from
the left--hand side in figure 3:
· Eight equal transceiver boards (TRB--32)
· Signal processor board (SPB--31)
· Transceiver Interface Board (TIB)
· Power supply
· High voltage unit
The Transceiver Unit performs most of the main functions
of the SD 570 sonar:
· Receivesthe operator settings fromthe Sonar ControlUnit.
· Generates the high voltage for the 256 transmitters
· Controls the transmission with a total of 256 separate 57
kHz transmitters
· Controls the total gain and data acquisition of the 256
separate preamplifiers
· Performs the digital beamforming of the received signals
· Executes the FM (Frequency modulation)
· Accomplishes the postprocessing (detection, AGC/RCG and
ping--to--ping correlation)
· Transmits the received echo data to the Sonar Control Unit
The 256 transducer elements on the Hull Unit are connected
directly to the front of the eight transceiver boards in the
Transceiver Unit.
