4 HULL UNIT
4.1 General
Thesonarhullunitshouldbeundercontinuouswatchasapart
ofthevessel’s machinery. Asitmay be exposedto severestrain
because of pitching and vibrations, it should be inspected for
loose parts.
In addition to lubrication (see chapter 4.4), check for signs of
corrosion. If required, clean the corroded areas and paint over
with a high quality protective paint.
4.2 Docking the vessel
Wheneverdockingthevessel,theswitchS101attherearofthe
Sonar Control Unit (refer to figure 1) must be switched OFF.
When docking the vessel, great care must be taken not to
damage the sonar trunk and protecting blister.
On vessels which have been in dock, the Hull Unit should be
examinedandthehoist/lowerfunctionsshouldbetriedoutand
watchedwhile operating the hoisting/loweringswitch(S302 in
figure 3 in the motor control unit on the Hull Unit). The
hoist/lower motor will automatically stopwhen thetransducer
shaft reaches the upper or lower limit switch.
Remember to set the hoisting/lowering switch back to
REMOTE for normal operation.
Afterthe vesselhasbeen indock,usethe airbleedingplug(see
figure 4) to get the air out of the trunk. Loosen the plug
carefully twotothreeturnsuntiltheairinsidethe trunkstarts
blowing out. When water starts splashing, tighten up the
screw.
